If we hadn't invaded and occuppied Iraq, they would have had a small internal fight in the government, and another dictator would have taken Saddam's place. France and Russia would have proceeded with their deals to modernize the oil drilling, and they would have taken some of the oil profits. The UN would have continued its inspections for nuclear weapons. Many of the current insurgents and terrorists would have finished high school or college and would be starting their first full time jobs. Thousands of people would not have been killed.

Oil for food program would have continued.
UN, Russia, China, and France would still be lining their pockets with Sadaam's cash.
Killings in Iraq would continue under him.

Iran would still be the threat to Iraq that they are today.

Not much would have changed from what was happening before. And whatever was happening before was none of our business. Iraq was a sovereign nation with it's own ruler. We had no right.

Saddam would be gassing the Kurds, filling mass graves with hundreds of thousands of more bodies, soccer and music would be outlawed, he'd be calling out names at random in Iraq's parliament to be executed, peoples hands would be cut off in Abu Ghraib, his sons would be raping Iraqi women, he'd still bribing UN officials to look the other way about his oil for food scam, Hans Blix would still be trying to inspect his facilites and he'd have a nuke.

I believe the answer to that lies in a past dealing with another mideast Leader, one who we had proven sponsored terrorism back in the '80's. Mohamar Ghadafi of Libya. He was proven to have knowledge and connections to the terrorist who blew up the Pan-Am jet over Locherbie Scotland. We bombed his palace and realatives palace, placed a embargo on his country, and now he supports our efforst, we have access for intel and finding terrorists in his country and he is a good little boy now. we need to learn from the successes and failures of our past, and we continue to not do that.

We should have also finished the job in Afghanistan and set up a SUCCESSFUL model democarcy there. Now we have two countries that are unfinished.

We probably would still be fighting the real Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Osama would have been captured or killed.

Obviously, we cannot go back. Speculation is pointless. We are where we are in history. It cannot be changed.
