I am in the UK, how long is the waiting list for an MRI?

I am going out of my mind with worry!

Hi, Fire Lily!
I'm so sorry you're having so much trouble. I think it's ridiculous to have to wait so long.
I don't know why you made the appt (ie: I don't know what your problem is or what your symptoms are), and I can't speak for everyone, but I can tell you of an experience I had. I was hospitalized (by my Dr., who I called that morning and got an immediate appt.) the same day that I had a "wrist flop" (all of a sudden I couldn't move my wrist). I had an MRI done THAT NIGHT (to make sure I didn't have a partial stroke). It was read right away by the radiologist, and again the next morning by the neurologist "on call" for the hospital. Follow-up appointments were available that same week. Fortunately, no stroke, and the symptoms went away on their own about 8 months later (nothing could be done). About a year later the same thing happened in the other wrist. Because it wasn't an emergency, I got an appointment with a neurologist with a very good reputation, but I had to wait for about 3 months (I could have been seen by someone else earlier, but wanted to see "the best"). Even then, had it been an emergency, I could have gotten in sooner. And I've had MRI's done for other reasons (migraines)- I think I waited a week for that. But I know that MRI's can be ordered and done that same day or within a day or two.
I don't know what's "wrong" with you, but I wish you well and
I must say I think it's totally inappropriate to have to wait until Jan. '08. And if it's something urgent, it's completely ridiculous.

Take care, and God Bless.

For an MRI, it is easy, they give you an injection, and you just lay down and they take their pictures of you. If you have a CT scan, they also give you two crappy things to drink before hand, I call it nuclear waste, but it helps your insides glow so they can see if anything is wrong. No need to worry, they are just ways to find things out, it doesn't mean that there is anything wrong.
