If you're a UK national and considered a home student for fees classification ignore the startling ignorance of the other posts as you could be eligible for a grant from the government.

If your household income is below £17910 you get a full grant of £2700.
If you have a household income between£17911 and £38330 you get a partial grant.

Furthermore if you receive the full maintenance grant you will recieve a bursary from your university. These vary, for example Oxford's bursary for those from families on less than £17910 is £4000 in the first year and £3000 therafter. University of Central England Birmingham offers only £500 per year in contrast.

If you're not a UK national you'll have to look at funding sources in your own country.

There is no grant available for overseas students OR ENGLISH students at the moment for attendance at a British university. The new Labour administration may be considering ways to provide grant support for English students but that will not be for some years, I imagine.

For overseas students, the only source of financial aid would be their own governments or "learned societies". Some scientific or medical societies will sponsor students from non-British countries. I haven't heard of other subjects being supported.

Otherwise, you'll have to finance yourself by working or borrowing or asking your family to support you. Think about it, why should British taxpayers pay for overseas students to enjoy university education when the same benefit is not available to British students?

University education is a good investment for an overseas student and the family will be repaid many times over. Your earnings could be twice or three times those of a non-graduate, and you'll be able to send money back to parents and friends once you start earning.
