You need to run, while doing that sprint, and go back to running. You also need to be able to zig zag. It takes alot of training. If you have a spot that you can run up a hill it will build your legs, so when you run on flat you will go faster. It builds up your lungs cause without air you ain't going anywhere.

Well, it definitely depends on what position you play, whether you want straight-up speed or agility. If you're an offensive lineman, it's not going to matter if you can run a 4.5 40-yd dash because you simply will almost never run that distance. In the end, you want explosion and agility to succeed in football. Being fast definitely helps but if you are quick (i.e. agile), you can be successful. While I agree with headhunta that you are going to have to hit the weight room, all the lower body lifts that you do are going to build power and explosion, not pure speed. You don't need to squat 500 lbs to be the fastest kid on the block. Explosion out of your stance, the ability to turn on a dime, and footwork are the most important abilities in football. That being said, continue to do your lower body lifts but also work in a plyometric routine. Plyos will help improve explosion and it's good conditioning as well. Hills and stairs are a another simple way of doing that. Do sets of short sprints (10, 20, 30, 40 yds) with short rest in between reps (e.g. 5 seconds rest for 10 yd sprints, 20-30 secs for 40 yds). Get a speed ladder to work on your footwork. Do cone drills like the T drill and star drill to work on quickness.

However, don't forget about conditioning as well. A good workout to start off or end a week of training is to go 400 m, 300 m, 200 m, 100m and then back up that ladder with rest between each rep. Don't run longer lengths than a 400 m sprint. Distance running will build up muscles that you won't be using on the field. I don't know what level you play football at but talking to your school's track coach can help you on your running form (i.e. pumping your arms back and forth and keeping them close to your body, running with a forward lean, staying relaxed). Again though, perfect running form may not necessarily translate into success on the field as you won't be able to do that in the trenches.

Note: Please don't sprint using ankle weights. You're going to tear up your knees. Use a weight vest, parachute, or a harness that someone holds on to if you want to add resistance.

First of all hit the wieght room. Heavy squats, deadlift and leg press will make ur legs stronger, thus allowing you move faster and with more power.
Secondly, you want to develop acceleration, 10 yard sprints, hollow runs ( build speed for 20 yards, sprint 20, repeat till you get to the end of the field). To build top speed do 50 yards sprints at 90% strentgh, dont kill yourself.
Also do alot of jumprope and stadium steps, combining all thses three things should make you alot faster as you prepare for camp.
