i have this poem assignment which we are asked to interpret the whole thought, though i have an ample idea, still i want to assure myself that, it is it,, anyone help?.. here's the poem..

Lizards
Federico Licsi Espino

"Cousins to Charmeleons
but-color-fast
They wear the drabness of the dusk
Against the ceiling's
incandescent glow.
For insect blinded by the bright
Conspiracy of tongue anf tungsten, they
Are dragons
atrophied but still as cunning
As their mythic counterparts.
Feigning
Gentleness, they wait for unsuspecting
Wings drawn to dazzlement and only, only
When the prey is near
Do they slough off all disguise:
These dragons who have lost
their blowtorch
Breath but not the coldness
Of their green, reptalian blood."

It's an interesting poem and can be interpreted in many ways. This is my interpretation:
I think it's saying there are things that may look like the original , those that are bigger, stronger than the original, but yet the original cannot be imatated flawlessly.

hope i helped.

I, personally, feel extremely wrong about giving you an answer without first confirming that you have some ideas of your own and have actually thought about the assignment. If you told us your answers, I think more people would be inclined to give you some more interpretations and let you know whether yours seemed reasonable.
The main thing to remember is that it is an INTERPRETATION. By its very nature, it can't really be wrong. Unless you are just being stupid and saying something like, "I think it represents the number 53." But short of being an idiot, you are likely to have some intelligent thoughts and as long as you can SUPPORT them, your teacher shouldn't have a problem with them.

Maybe it's just about lizards...maybe you don't need to see any other connection. The poem speaks about the relationship of the lizard to its cousin, the Chamelion and it's mythic counterpart, the Dragon of lore. It shows that although the lizard is smaller (through lack of use..or atrophy) than a dragon, it still breathes death to the unwary insect who believes it is too slow, too small, too dull to catch it. it doesn't take a great leap of insight to see how these attributes might describe other things in life...just give it your best shot, you'll be fine.

basically she is a mother who wants to liberate and free herself from the duties she feels obligated to complete, but when she tries to make it on her own call, she is called back to the duties she hates and feels just must do them so that she is loved, rather than alone?
