When I start my engine, when it's cold, I get this high pitch whurring sound from the engine.
It carries on for a bit, but stops when the engine's warm.
It doesn't do it when I start my engine warm though.
It has only just started doing it, maybe a week ago.
I don't know if it will make a difference, but my car is a 1988 Toyota MR2 1.6 twin cam.
Also, if it has gone, does anybody know roughly how much it will take to fix it?
Cheers

No, if the cam belt goes bad, you get a no start. You may just have a bad power steering belt or alternator belt. You can try spraying some WD40 or belt dressing on your belts and the noise should go away. Or you cann replace your belts. Or remove just one belt at a time and start the engine. If the noise stays, then remove the next belt . Once you hear the noise disappear, then you found the problem and that is the belt to replace. My recomendation is lube 1st. If you see any dry cracks in the belts, then it is time to replace all your belts. As far as the cam belt goes. How many miles do you have on the car? If you are at 60-70k, then i would recomnd replacing the timing belts. They give no warning or going bad. If you are driving and the belt breaks, then there is a good chance that the valves will hit the pistons and damamge the valves or piston or both. This will lead to a costly head replacement or piston replacement or engine replacement. Best to spend about $300 to replace all your belts right now and keep a record of the mileage when you replace the belts for your own records.
good luck..........

It's not the cam belt if the cam belt had gone the engine would not run as these are "interference" engines and the internals of the engine would be a lot of twisted scrap metal.
Have you checked the alternator belt? it could need tightening.

I would say that the serpentine belt(s) have some moisture on them from sitting overnight. Clean the pulleys and belt(s). Done use a belt dressing as this will make the noise worse. Also be sure the pulleys are in line with one another.

If the cam belt had gone the engine would not start. Could be anything whirring, the PAS pump/ Water pump/ Alternator etc. Take it to a local garage and ask them to check it out.

relies upon on the wear and tear interior the engine if too extensive you would be extra much less high priced getting a recon engine from a great broking;any solid storage has contacts for this sort of element not at all bypass to a back highway broking continuously go searching i've got been given a recon for a renault scenic 03 plate for £250:00 and grew to become into basically charged£two hundred:00 setting up,go searching as i pronounced

if your cam belt goes it will snap and your pistons will hit the head and you will either have to have your engine reconditioned or you willl have to buy a new engine for it. the best thing to do is to get your cam belt changed and maybe your fan belt. it wont cost you alot and it will be worth it.

TRY SPAYING WD40 ON YOUR ANCILLARY BELTS IF THIS STOPS THE NOISES THEN RE PLACE THEM IF NOT THEN I THINK YOU WILL FIND THAT IT IS IN FACT THE STARTER MOTOR SPIGOT WHEEL IS NOT DISENGAGING AND IT WILL EVENTUALLY STOP WORKING ALL TOGETHER, AS FOR THE CAM BELT IT WOULD WHINE BUT NOT START AND YOU MAY GET SOME CRUNCHING AND BANGING FROM THE VALVES
