How will the now known Franchise Video Game Madden NFL. Be known as if Al Davis hadn't have hired a young 33 yr old Head Coach back in the 70's. Known know as John Madden. Madden could've coach any other team had he never been a raider but would've he succeeded during that era as much as he did with the Raiders? Going to The AFC Championship Game 6 out of his 10 yrs and making the playoffs 8 out of the 10 yrs. he does lead All...All Coaches with the winning Pct. winning every 3 out of 4 games. Who would call the games next to Al Michaels?

5 words have to be said for this great video game franchise... "Thank God For Al Davis"...

I think Madden would've been destined to be great color commentator whether he coached the Raiders or any other franchise. His Madden video games are do to his immense popularity as an announcer, not as a coach. So whether he coached the Raiders or the Falcons, I think he would've been destined to go to the booth at some point, and that's where his star shines. So I don't think Madden video games has anything to do with Al Davis. Sorry.

Al Davis was (notice the use of past tense!) brilliant and innovative in a lot of ways, and the AFL and NFL owe a lot to him for the success of pro football as it is today. It's sad how he is now, and he really needs to step aside for the good of the Raiders, but I know he won't, so until he passes away (his health is pretty bad these days) the Raiders are doomed.

Also, when Madden was voted into the hall earlier this year, I actually heard some different quotes from some of his players that they would've won 4 or 5 Super Bowls if that "fat man wasn't coaching us." The talent they had on both sides of the ball (due to Al Davis) was second to none for about 6-7 years, so I think a trained monkey could've won at least one Super Bowl with that bunch.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but as Howard Cosell used to say, "I'm just telling it like it is!"

So you are saying:
He would not have had a NFL job anywhere in the last 30+ years?
He could not have coached ANY other team besides the Raiders to those championships?
Madden would have been a success anywhere he went, and giving Davis the credit for Madden's accomplishments is nuts.
Davis made the Raiders a great franchise 30 years ago, and they did get to the Super Bowl in 2002 and the AFC championship in 2000.
But that was because of the coach, which of course Davis let go.
The game has past Davis by, and he is too old and senile to keep up with it.
As long as Davis is there, the Raiders are losers.

No. I don't thank God for Al Davis, especially with the John Madden thing. Yes, congrats on John helping you guys make it to the AFC Championship game all those years. As a Broncos fan, I'll give you that. He was a good coach. THAT DOES NOT MAKE HIM A GOOD COMMENTATOR. In fact, he is probably one of the worst commentators in the history of the game. And why? Because he isn't involved in statistics like guys like Al Michaels or Phil Simms. I'd be surprised if he's ever looked at the stat book. Also, some of the things that he has said are so obvious that my sister, who hates football, would say "Duh, John".

I really, REALLY hope that he got the Madden video game deal based on his coaching, because if it was based on his commentary during the game, EA is stupider than I thought.

60, 70s and 80s was brilliant.
But now he needs to retire. Same with Steinbrenner.
The time comes for all to pass the batton.
I love the Raiders. Admire Al Davis, but he is not what he onces was.
I am 50 and know his sharpness in the old days

Not only that, Al Davis was a commissioner of the old AFL who started competing directly with the NFL for draftees. He made the AFL such a thorn in their side they could not ignore it. Without Al Davis's bad cop the might not have responded to Lamar Hunt's good cop.

Without Al Davis there might not have been a merger until the '70s

ok, their group is undesirable. They dont suck. they have taleted gamers. they only could desire to apply them suited. The Raiders are able to doing what they did 15 or 2 an prolonged time in the past of going to the SB. They Stacked their O-line this low season it is super, additionally that they had a super Draft, of finding out on up some shielding gamers. additionally, they have Darrius Heyward-Bey, who I gaurntee would be extensive at his place. basically wait, SF VS o.ok.would be a super interest interior the making.
