Should it sound like "isit" or "izit"? Does S become Z sound in all liaisons in English?

The word "is" is always pronounced with a z sound, phonetically represented thus:
/'iz/

There isn't a deliberate liaison. If you say "He is always late" it is practicallly impossible not to hear " He iz zalways..."...

The s is always pronounced with a z sound for the word is, not because of a liaison. (so yes it sounds like izit, and there is no liaison in that sentence!)

Izit. Yes, in american english at any rate, most "s" sounds are pronounced with more of a lazy "z" than the sharp hiss of an "s". This may be different in other english=speaking countries.

In the case you mention, the "s" sound already sounded like "z" before adding "it." However, it's true that the end of the word becomes the beginning of the next, so it's " i zit" rather than "iz it."

All s sounds do not become z sounds, by the way. For instance, in the sentence, "Place it on the table" the sound of "..ace" is an s sound, and it stays that way.

I hope this helps.

The s at the end of a word in English often sounds like z when the s is a plural or a verb ending, such as "It pleases me." "He has two pills to take." "The hotels are all booked." These words have a z sound even when spoken alone, it is not related to the word that follows.

Words that end in a double s don't have a z sound. Examples: "Kiss me." "Press it." "She has a dress to wear." "The glass is broken."

I would say it sounds like ''isit''.
Only some words would sound like Z.
