Does anyone else notice that sellers have rock bottom prices, but then you see the shipping cost and it's unbelievable.

Granted there are things that deserve the price and shipping cost you see, but others have outrageous shipping costs for things that don't even compare to how much you see from the websites of UPS, USPS, and FedEx. I know they need the packing materials but they can be found for a dime-a-dozen.

Do people try to make a profit from their shipping?

the higher the starting bidding price for the item, the higher they have to pay to put it up for bid, so they can just jack up the shipping costs. i once went too fast and didnt notice how i bought something for ten cents but the shipping was five dollars... argh for lack of a better word.
people are always trying to make a profit, at least some money to help them out so thats not any suprise. if i try to buy something that can be bought in mass quantities, i try to get it all from one buyer to combine shipping costs

Many sellers do that and it can be difficult to find a seller that has exactly the same thing for a fair price. If the item you want to buy is a rare item then I'd just suggest checking ebay again next week to see if there are any cheaper listings with fair shipping prices. If the item you want comes up quite a few times when you search for it on ebay, I'm sure that eventully you'll find a good trustworthy seller that won't charge an arm and a leg for shipping.

they do that because they don't pay sales commission or listing fees on the shipping, only the actual price. I agree - i\they are cheating the system and I usually avoid those auctions and try and find someone selling the same thing with more realistic shipping charges. I myself charge as close to actual cost as possible

You need to shop around, like when I bought my guitar from them, I saw a lot of very nice guitars very cheap but many had outrageous shipping cost, I kept looking until I found a cheap guitar with cheap shipping.
