His nervous self-deprecating style of comedy has been done many times before. Bob Newhart, Don Knotts and Tim Conway come to mind, certainly stars, but none reached the "stratospheric" heights and status he did. Why him? What am I missing? If I wanted to watch and listen to adults yelling at each other in a decidedly unfunny manner, I could just listen to my neighbors. I just never got his or the shows appeal, and the overt critical kudos it constantly received.

And yes, I'll admit my ability to type and proofread on the fly are wildly overrated as well, lol.

Apparently the show had a lot of appeal to a large audience , It lasted 9 years . I don't think it was all Raymond that made the show .It had a very good cast . My favorites were Robert and Frank . The show was really funny and Marie and Frank living across the street was a stroke of genius . Good show give it another try .

Amazingly enough, Ray Romano was the weakest link in that show. I loved Doris Roberts ever since she was with Donna Pescow in Angie. I thought Brad Garrett did an excellent job as Jackie Gleason, and I even enjoy his comedy series Til Death--though I realize it's not exactly a ratings gangbuster. Patricia Heaton has always done an admirable job, and early previews of her new show with Kelsey Grammer on FOX (a much bigger talent than Romano) look great.

But Romano's appeal has always escaped me. He is the one reason I could not make a commitment to Everybody Loves Raymond. I couldn't even watch him in that Mooseport movie he did awhile ago and I think Gene Hackman is a tremendous.

You're not missing anything. And when he gives off that can't decide between angry and being befuddled look, cue the fingernails on the chalkboard. He's really irritating.

this was a more subtle kind of comedy, the kind that would appeal to older or married people, because it played upon the tensions, foibles, and interactions of daily life. It wasn't slapstick, or smartaleck mouthings off, or sexual innuendo, that I've seen in other popular comedy shows, so maybe your taste runs to that sort and not to Raymond. There's nothing wrong with either type, it just depends on what an individual finds funny. Raymond may not have gotten as high a rating as he did if there were other shows with subtle humor, but he was virtually all alone and so garnered extra attention..

It is time for people to move on. That is the pass. They showed Italians way of living.

"Everybody Loves Raymond" is okay. It seems as if he is playing Seinfeld's character as a married man with kids and nagging parents.
