It's "Hamlet", and he's talking about suicide. Honor requires him to avenge his father's death, but in doing so he would be murdering his uncle and king, Claudius. The moral implications are causing him to contemplate suicide.

He was contemplating suicide. Either he was going to live, which put another way means that he was choose "to be", or he was going to choose to off himself, at which point he would "not to be" alive.

Read the book. Everyone talks in a really jacked up way in it, but it's not boring. A lot of people whack each other and plot and scheme behind each other's back-it's very Soprano-ish, if Tony Soprano and crew talked in that same jacked up way people talk in Shakespear's plays

Wiki has a nice write up on it...see below.

Hamlet's weighing his options.

Shakespeare is a bit rough to get into, but it's well worth it. Once you get into the flow of the words, and read it enough to understand the language, it's beautiful.

I was totally lost with it. I think it had to be about killing like "To be a killer or not to be a killer that is the question but I would be the last person you should take that up on. but I think that is what he meant my "To be or not to be"
