Hmm... what do I say. Hehe...
I believe that the human body is basically a "puppet" and the soul/spirit is the "controller." Basically, both are housed in one walking, breathing entitiy (namely, a person. Only people have souls, unless you believe in the Japanese Shinto, or Hinduism. However, I'm Chrisitian, so I say only humans have souls) Both of these things require some sort of needs, and if you do not give such a need, they will both feel "sick" and may probably "die."
Many love to separate the needs of the soul and the body, or to explain that all these needs are only exerted by the body, so as to disprove the existence of the soul, and thus, ghosts, religion, etc. However, they both the needs of the soul are related to the body (maybe... am I saying my thoughts correctly?), and when one need of the other is fulfilled, so does the other also feel rewarded. Such as eating, breathing, having a relationship (not going any further in that), finishing goals, etc.
However, there are some differences from what the soul needs, and what the body needs. In fact, the soul may at times conflict with the body.
The body's needs are to survive, while the soul's is generally fulfillment. Survival pertains to eating, breathing, sleeping, protection, and anything that will promote these. Fulfillment pertains to character building, successes, knowledge and wisdom, and understanding more about life. Its really hard for me to explain, but as a last word, it is easy to confuse physical and spiritual needs. That is why it is needed that you carefully study the differences between the two, so you do not get mixed up.

By spirit do you mean soul? The soul of the person is the principle that gives life, and each soul is particular to a distinct ontological subject (at least according to Aristotle). Aquinas postulated that the relationship of the soul to the body is that the soul contains the body (rather, than the popular notion that the body contains the soul)-- meaning that the soul is the totality of the person. The interaction of the soul and body is at the level of one's essential nature or being-- therefore to speak of the soul's relationship to the body is about the ontology (being) and teleology (ultimate purpose) of a particular person or other living entity.

More correctly to say how does human body interact with the spirit. Body is the mortal vessel for the spirit, it's like a suit, body helps the spirit to operate in our physical world. That's like how you can't walk in the deep water without special equipment.

Oh, a thought interacts with your body !
The very thought imagining something that chills your spine, even if triggered by some external factor, is an example.
Now all that is required is to trigger a non-material thought in you, which the spirit knows too well than any'body' (else) !

I beleive my animals have spririts and that i work together with my canines on a daily basis. I even have goats and a cat who merely interacts with me while he's hungry. So definite I work together with non-human spirits. Oh do you advise vegetation....I do tham too i admire my timber and my vegetation and my backyard. Becuase the extra love I provide them the extra they seem to grant me.

it is not exactly the spirit but inner-consciousness(not sub-consciousness) working of inner consciousness is entirely based on deliberate and intentional good and bad deeds. this working of inner consciousness sometimes may look like spirit because of its unusualness.
