Skinhead susie your name seems to lead me to think that you would say something like that.

Gun laws? Get rid of them. If owning a weapon and ammunition were MANDATORY then I think people would think twice about mugging someone else. You never know what overzealous citizen could be watching. It has been tried and true. It works in towns I have looked into moving into before. We realized this after we looked into it, that wasn't the reason, but crime there is virtually non existent.

Stricter laws! Death penalty being carried for murder, as a mandatory thing.

I hate to be callous, but to prevent crime I suggest a public place in every town be designated as used for executions. Public hangings, firing squads. Maybe before that guy shoots some gang member he might think, instead of 15 years in prison he *Could* get blown away in full view of the entire city.

That is just an idea, I said nothing from a moral perspective don't flame me.

Anyways, this would most likely cut down on crime drastically.

Allow only those with an IQ higher than their age, to have children; institute mandatory parenting education; increase the cost of a bullet to $5,000.00 (not an original idea but I like it); make it mandatory for fathers to help raise the children they spawn. An interesting documentary I saw, highlighted a few young, rogue elephants who grouped together (like a gang) and began killing other animals they came across - just because they could - very atypical behavior for elephants. The park rangers transported a HUGE male elephant into the equation and the killings stopped.

A tough question, and I can see no solution to it. Heck, if there weren't criminals, we wouldn't need law enforcement and that would eliminate the availability of jobs for about 50% of our population. Those who are in positions of law enforcement would have no one but their wife and kids to abuse. Of course, the main responsibility of police is to protect the rich. The fact that police seem to benefit society is because of a trickle down effect. It imposes the obligation for police to seem to assist any victims of acts of crime. Think about this. Police have awsome power. It is mandated by our government. There are so many police who are criminals as well, yet they are rarely prosecuted. There is the "brotherhood" of police, and they protect each other with lies, alibis, and silence, and contrived evidence. There are a few honorable police, but the majority are not.

If You abolished all the laws then nothing would be a criminal offense, would it? Just a tad radical but a good topic for discussion over a glass of Chardonnay.

it is an age old question. the answers may be simple but application of them is very complex and complicated.

Crime has socio-economic aspect as well as religious.

There are many questions to be answered in a holistic solution.

How a crime comes in a society in the first place? (gap between resources avilable to meet people's need and their need)
Why people commit a crime? (Reasons can be social, financial, religious, ignorance, etc)
Do they know they’re committing a crime? (Sheer ignorance can give rise to crime)

Where a crime is committed? (Many crimes are committed in isolation or in neglected areas)

What is the reward or financial or psychological motivation? (Tax evasion can increase personal profit)

How they commit? (an armed man influenced by alcohol can commit crime on an unarmed man)
at what level? (loose tempered men can easily reach their level of self-control)

When people glorify a crime? (Racial and religious crimes)

Does any law or policy germinate crime or legalise? (concent to sexual relationship give rise to sexual crimes outside marriage)

Are there suitable or appropriate rewards for not committing a crime or for being straight? (Straight innocent people in many societies are regarded as weak personalities)

Are there suitable or appropriate de-motivators or punishments? (Reward may still be better than punishment for a crime)

Do people know about them i.e. rewards and punishments? (people may know about a crime but may not know about the punishment)

Simple solution is to raise the awareness and prevent people from committing crimes. Self-prevention comes from higher morality. Higher morality comes from religious education that life does not end here. There is an eternal life where only justice will prevail. No one will be able to help any other. Only personal deeds will count. Not only that but also in this world bad deeds will bring upon bad consequences.

Moral education and practice also increase endurance such as Muslims’ fasting for a complete one month. During that time even they abstain themselves from many activities like eating, which is normal during the other parts of a year.

Being a good guy has two parts; knowledge and practice. One may have good knowledge but at the same time may lack the endurance to refrain himself or herself from a criminal activity. The knowledge of the Creator that He sees us everywhere and He also knows about what is in our hearts puts people into question even if he or she is alone or none is watching them.

Moral education and practice also help people knowing about what is good and what is wrong.
