If they need two cars then I say let them pick it together. Especially if the wife doesn't know much about cars. I think she should still have a say in it, because buying a car isn't like buying a household item. You can't take it back with ease, so it would be best to get it right the first time. And the best way to do that is to have two people invalid in the purchase

Who's paying for it? I think both people should come to an agreement about the car but since the wife will be driving it then she should be able to pick it out.

Well, my husband knows the kind of car I like (Honda Accord) so that's the kind he bought for me. He wouldn't want me to drive something that I felt uncomfortable or unsafe in. But, he handles all of the financing, and makes the final decision on everything.
