Actually, service industries usually don't count as being socialist when they are govt-run.

By strict definition, socialism is govt control (ownership or heavy regulation) of property ownership.

But your overall point is well made -- there seems to be a line where some govt-controlled services are acceptable, but not others.

The military is not a socialist organsisation, You would know this had you ever served. Police & Fire are service industries, yet i find it interesting that both of these entities are Union, and pandered to by the liberal..

the general conservative/libertarian (small government) platform is that the government exists only to keep the peace.

police, Military and Firemen do just that.
