vista is a really big op and reqires a lot of RAM basically the more RAM you have the happier ypur computer will be i would buy more RAM you wont be spending a whole lot and if you have the 32-bit version of vista then you can only go up to 3 gigs so it wouldn't hurt to get another gig especially with the price of ram so cheap(you can find it for about 15$ for 1 GB)

To be honest, it really will most likely be enough, but in case you really want to go with 4GB, I will tell you the best way. Obviously paying the $850 Dell wants to go from 2 to 4GB is not the best option. The idea the one guy had sounds good, get it with 2GB, and then add two more yourself sounds good, but not possible, it only has two slots, and they come with a 1GB stick in each. Here is what you do, buy this 4GB kit for $205 after rebate:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144066 take out the 2GB that come with it and replace them with this one, and then eBay the 2GB you took out, you should get at least $50 for them. So in the end, the upgrade only costs you about $150 out of your pocket, instead of the $850 Dell wants.

vista wont let you get the full benefit of 4gb so what you do is stay with two and get a usb storage device that has the vista logo on the package. i buy mine at walmart they have a 4gb one out for $50 when you plug it into an open usb port a widow will pop up and one option is use this to speed up my computer. choose that optio n and it will use it like ram. I leave an empty 4gb one plugged in just for that purpose. if you up the ram to 4gb on a 32bit vista you will only end up with 3gb if you do it like i said with the usb device you put in a 4gb and you 2gb ram plus 4gb.

basically 2gb is enough but if you want to upgrade your ram to 4gb heres a good thing to do.since you already have a 2bg ram installed in your laptop i suggest to buy another 2gb ram that has the same frequency as the one you have now.and your laptop will automatically set your mobo ram slot to dual channel mode.this is another way of maximizing the performance of your laptop using two memory cards.and its the most ideal thing to do to improve the performance of your computer. if you want to install a 4gb memory card n your laptop,i suggest instead of buying a 4gb memory card buy a 2gb memory card that has the same frequency of the one you alrady have.if you have a friend who has a 4gb memory card in laptop or pc.compare and you will see the difference between using two 2gb memory cards instead of a single 4gb memory card.

2gb should be plenty. normally 4gb or so is only for servers, or hardcore gamers. With everything else you have 2gb should do you fine.
