When it comes to society, i feel like an alien. I mean i feel like nobody thinks about life the same way i do. I'm only 15 years old, so a lot of the kids in my grade act very... childish. Everyone else in my grade only gives a sh!t about getting good marks, going to class, learning useless information. How can you learn about ancient civilizations or Macbeth while people in the world are starving to death, raping, murdering, commiting war crimes... i just dont understand how all the kids in my grade can be so content while such bad things are happening in the world. It feels like everyone else has been brainwashed to think about everything in a really fcked up way.. Another example are the expectations of society. Everyone in the surrounding society seems to be after the same thing: money. Lots of people seem so materialistic, just trying to get as much sh!t as they can.

well thats the end of my rant.
if you read that whole thing, you are the best
anyone else feel this way???

I know what you mean. Sometimes it feels like the whole world is sleeping & you're the only one awake...

Society has become desensitized to a large extent. They've seen too much (in movies & the media). Nothing affects them anymore. They become indifferent to the sufferings of others because it seems so far removed from their lives. Unless they have a personal encounter, it doesn't affect them. People get caught up in superficial things. It may seem strange in school that they focus on works of literature and history rather than focusing on real life situations and problems that we face. And yes, many people are materialistic & obsessed with money, because unfortunately in this world, money talks.

So what do you do when you feel like you're the only one with your eyes open? The only one who sees, or feels or cares about anything important?

You rant. Write it down. Get it out there. You speak. You try to make a difference even in some small way. You stand up for what is right, even if everyone else is sitting down. You choose to focus on what matters in life (love) rather than superficial things like money. You be the best person you can be so you can look yourself in the mirror.

It can be difficult to be open, to be honest to dare to think like you do & express it. It takes great courage to be authentic in such a phony world. But don't lose hope. There are other good people out there like you. You can make a difference. Don't lose faith in education. Even when it seems silly, it is good experience & a stepping stone for the future.

You sound quite mature for a 15 yr old. You have more sense than most people twice your age. You are not an alien. You are a human being. It is the rest of the world who are becoming dehumanized...

You're not an ALIEN, you're a RARE HUMAN, so don't worry you're not alone. Congratulations! That's called like a deep consciousness, you're a lucky guy.
But don't take it too close to your heart (I mean all negative things that happen in the world), you just can't fix them, you can show the way to live for others. Be for them an example how to think, how to act correctly. Don't grow too fast, you'll regret about it soon. Learn about ancient civilizations, philosophy, share your knowledge then with others here on Y!A and with your friends. Live the way of philosophy. Good luck.

I don't think this way. All of the "horrors" of the world that you describe are not new. You suggest because there is trouble in the world we should all focus on that rather than focusing on bettering ourselves. If we were to do that, then we certainly would live in a pit of despair.

I think it's essential to study literature, history, mathematics and all of the higher disciplines of humans. This is what elevates us to not create "horrors" on this planet.

Don't despise money. Money is not evil. It is simply a currency that is given to people that have contributed to society. While not always fair and accurate, generally, those that contribute more to society have the option to accept more money in return. Also consider that those that accept a good amount of money...can then give a good amount of money to people that have encountered some of the unpleasant aspects of this world.

I can only speak from my experience.

I perceive things differently from everyone else. You and I will both perceive (experience) your question and my answer in a different way - maybe similarly but not exactly.

I was about 8 or 9 when it hit me I was different, 18 when I started pondering it, 2 years ago I started to learn to accept it. 15? You have a nice road ahead.

You'll be fine. You can already see the tip of the iceberg, if you look under water you will see what supports it.

I share most of your perceptions. Enjoy your journey.

Our differences make us alike.

you are definately NOT an alian. You are so caught up in your own self analysis and study of your own opinons and feelings that you are Most definately a SELFISH human. The common thread that makes us all the same is this selfishness. So continue worrying about yourself and who you are and what you feel and all that and you will continue to never be alian.
