If you have sex, with or without protection, and the guy ejaculates sperm into your vagina, YES you can get pregnant. It does not matter if it was the first day that your period started either.

I know women who've gotten pregnant on their period.

Yes, it is possible. But because during your cycle your uterus sheds it's lining you will most likely not be able to get pregnant because if an egg plants itself to something that is shedding, it will most likely come out with the lining anyways.

Yup. It's not likely, but sexual arousal can sometimes trigger ovulation, even during your period.
