I am 15 and I started my period when I was 11 or 12 years old I don't remember it was in 5th grade though. My periods were exactly 4 weeks apart for the first 3 years and the past 2 years or so they have been very irregular. They are mostly always 6 weeks but once in a while they are 4 or 5 week so I never know when I am going to start my period. Is this normal? I haven't had sex yet so I know I am not pregnant or anything. But is this going to affect me in the long run and keep me from having kids? Please help!

Irregular periods can be common for several years after the onset of menstruation. Usually by the time you reach your late teens or twenties a normal cycle should have started. Since it's only a couple of weeks difference between you and the normal four week cycle I wouldn't be concerned yet, but if the stretch between your periods increases to months or persists when you're older I would get checked because the hormones released during your cycle effect all sorts of things in your body. Regularly skipping periods can even increase your risk of osteoporosis at an early age. Right now your situation sounds pretty normal though so I wouldn't be concerned, though you should probably still tell your mother.

This can be normal for some women. You may want to go see your doctor though to be sure everything is ok. It will not affect you with having kids as my periods were slightly irregular and I wound up with 2 kids 10 3/4 months apart.

This is actually pretty common. Most women experience some irregularity in their cycles at some point. If it continues long term, you might want to see a doc just to make sure nothing is wrong, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Are you on a restrictive diet or do you do an extreme amount of exercise? These could be contributing factors. Make sure that you are getting enough iron in your diet. Don't reduce caloric intake too much and do a reasonable amount of exercise. Otherwise see your doctor.
