Alot of you probably have no idea what I'm talking about, but I collect Breyer model horses and have recently gotten into showing them, which is setting them up in little scenes, trying to make it look real, and taking pictures of it. I've got a talent for it but was wondering if anyone out there has any tips for me? Maybe on what works for good backrounds, most realistic-looking dolls, things I could use to make a fence, artificial dirt, artificial snow, grass, ect..Got any suggestions? Good craft stores? Anything helps, really.

Check out Model Horse Sales Pages (www.modelhorsesalespages.com). They have everything listed from tacks to props, dolls to backdrops. Occasionally they also have 'how-to' books listed. Also consider joining Model Horse Hobby Reference group here on Yahoo. If you join that group and ask this question, there are a lot of experienced showers in the group who can perhaps direct you to other sites. (I just started showing myself and, so far, have shown only halter.) Also, check at Tractor Supply, K-Mart, Target, and Wal-Mart. Sometimes they have props for sale (most that I have seen are Stablemate size.) Also, you can contact Breyer and request a catalogue from them, also find your nearest Breyer dealer. The catalogue will show the current props available. Good luck!

Look in model railway sites, shops and so on.
They do a lot of outdoor scenes to liven up their tracks.

The scale may be wrong for you, but you at least get a lot of ideas. Often they also have a lot of information about building the landscapes.

Other groups that might help you are the model town builders.
I have seen that they use a lot of tricks to make the towns look life-like, but I do not know how much of this info is available for others.

Lastly, dolls house makers.
They do mostly in-doors scenes, but some also build a backdrop, and they can at least help you with furniture and fences and alike.

Look for websites, shows and for shops specializing in these markets.

Once you get the right start, many craft stores can help you to get the things.

Small tomato past cans make good traditional size barrel. popcile sticks ( i know every1 says it) is good for just about anything. u can make jump wings with them, to fences, & flower boxes. look up risingstarmodelhorseranch. it is a new group i just made, it is gonna be my model ranch. hope this helps. :)
