I would call the FBI or local police. If I did not at least do that I could be in trouble.

Depends on what the "hurt" entailed. I would do all in my power to stop an attempt on ANYONE'S life, including but not limited to, calling law enforcement agencies, personally warning the official, and involving myself.
HOWEVER....if the "hurt" was just gonna be an old fashioned "ice-whuppin" I MIGHT NOT USE the most expedient means of warning A POLITICIAN, especially one who I detest. Just being honest, here! I believe that at least 200 or so of our Federal officials DESERVE a butt-stomping. It may bring them back to the real world of rights, responsibilities, and consequences. I get so tired of hearing these old men talk as if THEY ARE fighting the wars, and THEY ARE WORKING the jobs that make Americans choose medicine or food. I think it would be a welcoming "greeting" to a person who is so jaded and coccooned that he can only view his fellow citizens as "targets, demographics, and focus groups".
OK, damned, I'd try to break up the "fight" ....at some point. :-)

I would report it, even if was against someone I don't like. If the crime was committed and it was later found out I knew about it and did nothing, I could be charged as an accessory to the crime for not reporting it
