Yes. At the time I wondered what was wrong with me.. Why couldn't I feel more... I should be feeling more. Something momentous had happened. something horrible, but I could feel nothing but this cushioned emptiness. It was later, when the numbness gradually wore off that I wished it would return.

Yes several time but it depends on which spectrum.
Emotionally, quite a few times have I felt that way. I can't get into specifics.
Physically, I took a fall skiing one time and wound up with a 3rd degree shoulder seperation and tore the shoulder cuff right out of the socket and tore the muscle right off the bone in my left arm. Wound up at the hospital 6 hours later due to the blizzard and distance.
I was numb from the incredible pain and I never really recovered 100% from this.

Yes. Everytime I smoke a blunt.
Hello, Hello, Hello. Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me.
(Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd, best stoner song.)

Once when I was in Saudi Arabia I was bit by a camel spider and had a little bit of my foot eaten away. Boy, that makes you feel numb!

Twice.
*When my kids decided that they wanted to live with their mom, after having lived with me for six months.
**It was just before the holidays this past year.
**I was too stunned to feel anything until after New Years.
**After 12 yrs. as a "family dude", I really didn't know if I was dead or alive during those days.
*I was in a martial arts tournament last month, and I switched from a normal stance to a southpaw stance.
**Nothing "Jackie Chan/Jet Li" about this maneuver ...
**I ruptured the distal head of my left bicep and had to finish the bout with one arm.
**I guess there was nerve damage, because I still can't feel it whenever I exercise it (I'm still in the "gradual rebuilding" phase ...).
**It will be permanently disfigured and I'll eventually recover 90% of its former function.
Doh!

"I've become so numb I can't feel you there
Become so tired so much more aware
I'm becoming this all I want to do
Is be more like me and be less like you"
