Okay so I work at subway and the thing is that I work at nights and it's only two of us and day crew has four most of the times some time one has the day off. The thing is they expect us to have all of the mayo and must bottles full along with the meats, veggies and ice before they come in. They want us to have all the chicken, terriakie chicken, steak, tuna, crab, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles ect. prepared with two of everything plus what they have for the front full. They want us to clean up everything and do it all before 10:30pm. We close inside at 9pm and drive thru at 10:00pm. It wouldn't be so bad, but the morning crew does nothing but prepare for the day make sandwithces and to thier afternoon money, bread, chips, and cups count. When I worked morning shift I was the only one who took tomatoes out to cut. When I tell them they werent busy they tell me it's our job to do the prep and fell up ice. Halfway thru our shift we run out of meats, cheesse, ice, just about everything.

They dont fill anything for us. Morning is from 9am till 4:30pm nigts till 10pm but dont get out till about 10:30 or 10:45. They kept going thru employees so they made us sign a thing saying if we dont give 2weeks we get 50dolars out of our checks. And they threaten to not pay us past 10:30 if we arent busy.
What should I do. I figured telling the manager is pointles since she works 9-4:30 and is why they go through employees fast. So I just said f-it and do enough for our night crew and let morning people fend for themselves.

I am an assistant manager at Subway, and that stuff would never fly in any of my owners stores. At my Subway, the day shift does ALL the work. We prep everything, bake everything, and make sure that the night crew has everything they need to get through the night, then we come into absolutely nothing but the serving unit being full and we start all over again. Ice we fill every 2-3 hours so it isn't dependant upon any one shift. We have 5 employees on each shift also, but we are a very, very busy store. The only thing we expect out of the night shift is that they make sure the store is clean and that they have enough food to start out the day in the serving unit.
It sounds like to me that maybe you should have a talk with your owner. Most generally, they don't know what is really going on in their store.
Morning would be a better time to do everything simply because it is less busy. They have a lot of downtime before lunch rush and after lunch rush to get things done. It may even cut down on the owners labor cost if this was suggested to him. We have a really well run store, and we always meet labor percentages, so if you need some help or ideas let me know.
Subway isn't the only food chain that "treats their employees unfairly". This is true of any place that you work. Rumors always fly, and no one is ever happy with their job. There are ups and downs to working anywhere. If you want to do something about it, or you think that your store is being run inproperly, say something to your district manager, your monthly subway inspector, or take it up with World Headquarters. I would make sure that if you are going to say something to someone, that they are not employed by your owner. Go through someone that is actually employed by headquarters or somewhere else.
If it is that bad, just give your notice. They will probably cut your hours after you give notice anyways. Also, I am not sure that it is even legal to take $50 of your paycheck for not giving notice, you may want to check into that.
Night shift is reserved mainly for kids. Why the grown-ups that work during the day would leave the entire responsibility up to a bunch of kids is beyond me. Sounds like you need a better manager and a new group of adults to work during the day. You need to say something to someone with some authority if you really want to change it.
You also need to realize that if you have the attitude that you are going to just do enough for your shift, that is the attitude the day shift is going to have.

My Subway is not like that; it is not Subway that is the problem, it is the manager. As far as the amount of employees, the day shift is usually quite a bit busier than the night shift so they should have a few more employees working at that time. However, they have a few hours after they come in before lunch starts, whereas, when the night shift comes in it usually is about the time when the dinner rush starts. They should do all the prep during the day and make sure things are back up to level for the night shift before they leave. Everything has an expiration date so it makes more sense to prep in the morning for the day, otherwise if you prep at night that stuff sits all night not being used. My rule of thumb is you should only have to prep things at night if you absolutely need it and usually that is something easy like a turkey or lettuce. Anyway, the lettuce does not look as nice if it is prepped the night before.
I would have a talk with your manager. If he/she is not receptive then I would give my two weeks' notice. I always say it is important to give proper notice, you never want to burn a bridge. You never know what can happen in life. What happens if you really really need a job at some point and this is the only place to get one.

Thats the excat same thing with my Subway too what you have to do is let the boss KNOW sometimes the manager can't do much about it which sucks. I talked to my coworker about this and she worked at another Subway she told me it shouldnt be like that because it is not being organize. You're right about preparing the meat and vegtables in the late afternoon cuz doing all that is a load of work! The work needs to be split like let your coworkers know they cant just clock out at 4 when there are a pile of dishes they should wash half of the pile, tell them to help you take out the trash before they leave, fill up the cooler, the bottles etc.. My boss told us the same thing lol we had to finish around 10:15 but my coworkers just told him the truth. Tell your boss whats going on and talk to him about it. Good luck!

First, don't feel like an idiot because it takes some extra time to learn your job. I have had to ask for some advice on a couple of jobs, too. I agree with those who say that you need to find another job first. Also, be sure to give a two weeks notice, that way you will be in good standing when you leave. Sorry that your current job is not working out for you right now. Retail can be tough as well, so be sure that is what you want to do. Hope everything works out for you.

Sure hope that you are looking for another job. I know that liking your job is 90% of the battle. I would apply at the Home Depot , or drug store. They are always needing help and you will be in a job that has opportunity for promotion. Sounds like your getting a bad deal, but since you do work nights and you would have your days to apply other places , seems to me that is your way out. Another thing you might want to consider , alot of places are now taking applications on line , so take a little time and submit one. Best of luck to you

there shouldnt be any slow times,, you can always find something to do there is usually only 2 people at closing in the deli i work at we stop making sandwiches by 8 pm first person leaves by 9 and last person leaves at 10 the trick is to clean as you go, stock as you go,
but if you really do not like working there you should quit and if they wont pay you past 10:30 then thats the time you leave by. stocking all the chicken, terriakie chicken, steak, tuna, crab, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles ect. really should be done before you close
i myself have been in food service for 20 yrs it can be done if you start earlier and keep yourself busy
maybe fill ice at shift change or something?

You know, I have heard that Subway in general treats their employees like garbage all over. I wouldn't stick around, quit, find another job.

All the fast foods have almost the same closing and opening styles. Maybe u should change jobs. Or take a couple classes at teck school or community collage. So u can find a better job that will pay more money.
