but what if we have to fins average percentage of
2 out of 10 , 3 out of 20 , 4 out of 40
then do we have to take like (2+3+4 )/3 =x
and then take (10+20+40)/3=y
and then final answer is
(x/y)*100 ??

Yes, you can directly average percentages. What formula are you using? There are several kinds of averages. You can use =average(A1:A10) or=subtotal(1,A1:A10) for an average. Maybe the cells are formatted as text. Clear the formatting and reformat or just try the same exercise on a different sheet or worksheet.

Average of percentages is not calculated this way
suppose we have score 10/10 = 100%
and we have another one 50/100=50%
Their average 75% id WRONG
the correct average is 54.5% it reflects weight-age second score.

Have 4 numbers whose sum = 8.4
Average = 8.4 / 4 % = 2.1 %
Where the 2.6 % came from is a mystery!

the average of any set of numbers = sum of the numbers / number of numbers added
average = (3.2 + 1.9 + 1.4 + 1.9) / 4
average = 8.4 / 4
average = 2.1
2.6 is not the average... i cant figure out where it came from!
