Personally, my feelings for a screen is, the bigger the better.

I recently bought Apple's MacBook. And I am SO pleased with my purchase. All my life I've been loyal to PCs but I decided I'd check out the Macs and ended up falling in love with it. It's a great laptop in so many aspects.
About the screen size, I guess it all depends on you. If your a student or are going to be moving the laptop around a lot, I'd say go with the 12". But it you're going to be using the laptop for primarily business, I suggest the 14". But that's all my opinion. Do whatever you want, because you don't want to be stuck with something you will regret later. Good Luck!

Any major brand is fine.
Any size screen is fine. It depends on what YOU like. Small screens typically accompany light laptops that are easily portable. Larger screens or for portable systems that can often come close to Desktop power and capability.

My laptop is with 15" screen, same as my desktop. So, no problems for me switching from one to another.
