Among all the pairs who have played at least 50 times together, Sangakkara and Jayawardene have now become the most prolific in terms of averages, edging past the Australian pair of Matthew Hayden and Ricky Ponting
the massive gap between these two pairs and
the other partners is huge - Jacques Kallis and Gary Kirsten, third in the list, average ten runs fewer per dismissal.

Of course its Mahel and Sangakkara.
Below are some facts on that..
Hayden-Ponting -innings:69, runs:4591, ave: 71.73
Sangakkara-Jayawardene -innings:50, runs: 3389, ave: 72.10
Lara-Sarwan - innings: 58, runs: 3198 , ave: 55.13
Tendulkar-Ganguly - innings:61, runs: 3478, ave: 59.96
Kirsten-Kallis- innigs: 64, runs: 3592, ave: 61.93
Sangakkara and Jayawardene have been especially unstoppable when playing at home - they average 88.60 per partnership, with five century stands. Overseas they haven't quite turned it on in similar fashion, though the numbers are still very impressive - 1174 runs at an average of 53.36.
Also they have the record partnership of 624 runs (against SA in 2006) for anywicket in cricket history.
Among all the pair who have played at least 50 times together, Sangakkara and Jayawardene have now become the most prolific in terms of averages, edging past the Australian pair of Matthew Hayden and Ricky Ponting (which means that the Australia-Sri Lanka series later this year will be a battle of, among other things, the two best batting pairs in the game).

I almost didn't see thiz question SMARNY.
I pick Ricky Ponting & Matthew Hayden bc, those two aussies don't cheat like Adam Gilchrist & Shane Warne.
Captn Pointing is a batsman that can stay for 200 ov & Matthew Hayden a tall powerful aussie that can be a forceful opening batsman for test.
Mahela well get out for 60 runs & Sangakkara well get LBW for 29 runs.
Lara & Sarvan is outta the league. Lara is not like he use to be in 1992.
Sachin is a short demon that can smack cricket balls outta the boundary line but, pretty soon he gets bowled. Sewhag is a batsman that will last but, spin bowlers will get him somehow.

I don't know about all partnerships but the most prolific opening partnership is Justin Langer and Matthew Hayden of Australia.
