Both the answers above are correct.

You need to specify whether this is cellular respiration or breathing. In cellular respiration, the cell utilizes food molecules (glucose, proteins, lipids) to make ATP. Oxygen serves as a final electron acceptor in this process, making H2O as a byproduct.

In breathing (total body respiration), the lungs and diaphragm are involved. Oxygen floods the lungs and enters the bloodstream via alveoli - little sacs at the ends of the lobes. Oxygenated blood is then returned to the heart via the pulmonary vein so that oxygen can be distributed throughout the body.

Sugar is oxidized to carbon dioxide, and oxygen is reduced to water and in this whole process, energy is created.

the equation for respiration is :

sugar + oxygen = carbon dioxide + water + energy

Oxidation is when a molecule loses electrons, and reduction is when a molecule gains electrons.

In respiration, oxygen gains electrons, binds with hydrogen protons, and becomes water. Through the combustion of sugar, carbon dioxide and energy is made.

Don't listen to SAMI, he's wrong. There is some oxygen (though very little) exhaled. You do exhale carbon dioxide, but not all oxygen consumption is 100% efficient.

CO2 is a waste production of oxygen. Oxygen get absorbed and carbon is releseased. It like poop.... Your body takes all the nutrients of what you eat and you **** out what you don't. I guess my example is weird but its true.
