Whats the best beach to drive to that is close to Gainesville. Preferably not Daytona. I would like to see a white sand clear water beach but that isnt as important. Just something fun and somewhat close to Gainesville.

Thanks!

Anastasia State Recreation Area is just north of St. Augustine Beach on Florida Highway A1A.

Getting there is simple, just drive east on Florida 20 to US 17 in Palatka, there take US 17 across the St.Johns River to Florida 207. Turn left on Florida 207 to Florida 312, just south of St.Augustine. Turn right on Florida 312 to Florida A1A. Turn north on A1A to the entrance of Anastasia park. this is a park in the Florida State Park system. The last time I was there, a child was hit by a car, driving on the beach and there was talk of stopping driving on the beach. There's fun to be had without driving.

Rather than turning north, turn south to St. Augustine Beach, or continue south to Cresent Beach Park, a very nice beach area. Continue farther south to Ft. Matanzas National Monument. Take the boat ride to the fort and enjoy some wonderful history.

Farther south is Flagler Beach along with their rocky beaches. Another fantastic beach.

Have fun.
