You make a very good point, and if I thought alQaeda wasn't so blinded by their hatred and ideology of domination, I would agree that this would seem the logical objective.
However, I believe that they would take any opportunity presented them to attack as often and as hard as they are capable of. Presently, they're pretty busy in Iraq and under a lot of pressure on the Afghan/Pakistan border.
My take on anyone that doesn't think these militants present a real and present danger to us has a very short memory.

5 years ago, they came in and attacked our country and over three thousand people lost their lives.

In al-qaida land, if the situation were reversed, they would be brain-washing their children to hate the U.S. from birth. Oh, wait, this is already happening.

Here, we have some that still don't believe al-qaida was behind the attacks, some think our government was responsible, and others that think if we would just talk more to those people, that we could resolve our differences. So, based on the results of our "coming together" so far, I would think that they will attack when the next opportunity presents itself, regardless of how they think we will react.

I think so...

there are two options...

1. they attack before the election... that will give the idea that Bush has been incompetent in his war on terror (as al-queda growing seems to prove)

2. they attack after the election, giving the democrats a bad name (assuming dems win the presidency) and giving Republican ammunition about the democrats being weak on terror...

I have a feeling they may wait until the dems get elected, knowing the public will backlash against them and bring back incompetent Republican leaders who didn't finish the job in the first place...

if you had an enemy that couldn't catch you... you wouldn't want that enemy changing leaders...

YES. I think they will always be trying to find a way to attack us. Al-qaeda and other terrorist would love to see all of us dead. All of us...white, black, democrat, republican, Christian, non Christian.
We need to all pull together and stop fighting politically.

It looks as though they like to attack soon after a new leader takes office. 1993, 2001, and right after Brown assumed his new position. I don't think it makes any difference which party wins the election as far as AQ making another attempt to attack the U.S.

Do you admit Democrats like to "Flip-Flop".

But yes, I still believe they would attack because they would rather kill a few thousand people and let us spend more money on a war than let us be divided.

Yes they will. Then Fox News will be able to scare the nation into invading Aruba or something.

Al-Q's audience is the extremists of Muslim community. They don't plan attacks around the fear of the US uniting.
