Without elbows you'd have a tough time taking a shower, going to the bathroom, etc. Without knees, you couldn't drive a car, walk normally, or sit down easily.

Which would you choose?

I’d rather have elbows b/c upper limbs has more essential functions than lower limbs…with upper limbs we eat, we drink, we write, we curry things, we scratch…etc…..can you imagine feeling itchy and not being able to scratch?

without knees you can still walk if your nervous system is intact…you will have difficulty driving a regular car, but if you have good elbows then you can get a car for such disability…on the other hand, if you had no elbows you can’t drive at all...without elblows, you can't even stand up or get out of your bed b/c you need your upper limbs to assist you while attempting to stand or get up.

I think upper limbs disability is the worst!!!

No Elbows. End Of Story.

NO KNEES WITHOUT A DOUBT.
With or without the use of todays hi-tech virtual leg replacements, a person with no elbows is much more limited in what they can do than the person with no knees.

Life without knees is a more viable option since there are adaptive technologies for drivers who don't have use of their legs. This may seem extreme, but I wouldn't rule out having both legs amputated just above the knees. Modern prosthetics have come a long way. At least artificial knee joints would offer more flexibility.

I would take no knees.

It is true that no knees would be an impediment to walking. HOWEVER, you can compensate for the non-ability to bend your knees when lowering your head, reaching down or for sitting and standing by BENDING YOUR BACK. When driving, you can also compensate by moving the driver's seat back so that you can move your leg from gas to brake ( I know, I've driven with casts on BOTH legs). You can also get devices commonly made for the disabled that are located on the steering wheel which you can use to accelerate and brake.

Having no elbows would be a different can of worms altogether. You couldnt dress yourself, button or unbutton your shirt or pants, unzip your fly or scratch an itch ( That alone would be a deal killer for me..LOL). Naturally, I'd not relish the thought of walking around naked,, as I look frightening enough as it is..LOL

With no elbows, you'd also look like a mummy on a Scooby-Doo cartoon when you'd be giving a loved one a hug ( That also would be a deal killer).

Good question!!!

If I had to choose...no knees. Furniture, cars, etc. could be adjusted to the long leg design but without elbows, how would we feed ourselves? Elbows also enable us to cradle a new born and hug a loved one...priceless.

No knees. If I didn't have any elbows I'd have a tough time answering Q&A's on Yahoo!

I'll assume that the question implies a mere loss of the joint, not the nerves that govern movement of the limbs.

Based upon that assumption, I would go with no knees. I'd still be able to go for long walks so I've not lost anything there. Driving would be a bit of a challenge but not impossible. Since I'm not a tall person, it's rare that my feet touch the floor when I sit down anyway. lol

The way mine hurt at times, I guess knees would be the ones I'd surrender. I don't drive a car anyway, and I guess I'd get used to it the way people who have to wear braces get used to it. With no elbows (or elbows locked by braces), you couldn't do much of anything, including feeding yourself.

But frankly, I'll keep all my joints, even the ones that ache. Wish I could smoke a joint to relieve them, but Missouri does not allow medical marijuana, and I'm not willing to risk my freedom for it. Celebrex will have to do.

cool question... I have to go with no knees. I believe it will be easier to find alternate ways to move around, even drive. But I would be devastated if I didn't have my hands to write, draw, and touch the people I love. I would lose so much physical contact without my hands. I love holding hands, touching my mother's hands and studying things through touch... forget it! 'hands' down... the knees can go.
