I think players would rather have a ring. When you dream about playing sports you dream about winning the Superbowl, Finals, or World Series... you don't dream about winning the MVP.

of course a championship. basketball is a team sport and winning a championship is the ultimate prize. winning an mvp may show you're a leader to your team, but the fact that you might not be able to lead them to a championship may lower its value. if i was on a championship team i would not want to be a bench player, because being a starter shows that even if i'm not the captain i'm still one of the leaders. i know that there are some people who were on the bench when they won championship with great players, and now nobody even remembers them. but as for charles barkley he would give up his trophy for a ring, i don't think he is stupid because if i was in his place i would do the same thing.

Championship ring
I think David Robinson said that his MVP trophy has been hidden in a closet since he received it as Hakeem embarrassed Robinson in Robinson's MVP year during the same playoff series that Robinson received his MVP.
I mean what does a team play for the championship or for someone on the team to be named MVP as they get eliminated during the playoffs.
I am sure that Bill Russell is more proud of his 11 NBA rings than of his 5 regular season MVP awards.
Tom Heinsohn has 10 NBA rings and zero MVP awards, so I am sure that Tom Heinsohn is proud to be #2 in the entire NBA in NBA rings.

I would rather the championship ring because MVP trophy is just for one season and a ring would last forever.

In the end, its always about the rings. How do you think Dirk feels about his MVP right now? I can't imagine that he feels much satisfaction with it.
MVP's might get a player contracts and endorsements, but when all is said and done, the player's career is validated by how many championships he led his team to.

yep. i'd trade my mvp trophy for a championship ring in a heartbeat if i were an nba player. look what karl malone did to get one; he played as a role player for the lakers considering he was an mvp of the league in the late 90's. too bad for him they lost to the pistons.

not being politically correct ...most NBA player would rather win the MVP trophy......they want to feel like their the best in the league . they really want to feel like part of a great team but. They want to feel like they were unstoppable.
Remember most players in the NBA were the best players in their city/community and or state.
They were the best.......then they were probably the best on their college team.
they want to feel that way again ....like the best in the league...a dream com true
Charles was correct .......he would rather win the MVP because its a personal accomplishment.
They all are lying saying the don't care about the scoring championships...defensive player of the year. They want to feel like the best player.
The best team feels nice but they rather feel like they were the best.
Don't get me wrong the do wanna win a championship....but showing ya talent is more superior to other players in the league is much more self satisfying ....... which is what most players are about.
But winning an championship while being regular season mvp and finals mvp.......WELL THATS LIKE HAVING THE BEST OF TWO WORLDS

Anybody involved with a team sport had better prefer a ring. I remember when Cedric Benson was at Texas, that fool said he would rather win the Heisman than the Championship - made us OU fans crack up!
