Don't you ever wonder how much we could accomplish if we really started working together. We are not the world's cops - we need to take care of our country, each other and, every now and then, mind our own business. I wonder what would happen if we didn't go into a country until they ACTUALLY INVITE US or UNTIL THE ACTUALLY ASK FOR OUR HELP???

Give it some thought before you answer - I've heard all the Rep and Dem rhetoric, so, if you don't mind, drop the posturing. How about some unifying responses - how could we honestly find some common ground? I would really like to know.

Common ground is a difficult place to find -- especially when you have a group of people that won't even bother to seek it. However, the one piece of common ground that I have seen is the love that both the Democrat and Republican parties have for the United States. That piece of common ground is currently occupied by both sets of political ideologies. The problem, is when they determine what makes the most "sense" for the country's betterment -- and thus the division that we all see. Sadly, the love of country is the only common ground that will likely be sought -- and it doesn't seem to be enough to unify two very different mindsets on to a single track of how to make things better for the citizenry of this country.

Well, really, the repubs and dems are the same party, just split down the middle and made to fight so the american public is fooled into thinking they are different entities.

Now, for the better answer. First off, I love what America SHOULD stand for. Freedom. Freedom to smoke a bowl in the privacy of my own home. Freedom to practice whatever crackhead religion I want to, as long as I don't hurt anyone else. Freedom to believe whatever I want. Freedom to decide whether or not I should commit suicide, and then do it, or authorize someone else to, if I am incapable. Basically, freedom to do anything that hurts nobody but my self. And freedom to say what I want, as long as I am willing to take responsibility for what I say. Freedom to print anything. Freedom to own an AK-47, if the government wants me to register it, thats OK, I understand its part of my duty to help protect my fellow man from myself.

And finally, the most important freedom of all, the freedom to install a new government by the people and for the people, should the current regime do us wrong. All these rights are voiced in some shape or form in the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

However, America has stepped wrong. Its not just one parties fault. All parties are at fault, because they are trying to constantly promote thier own idea of morals and values. How about this guys? How about letting us decide our own? If I want to marry another guy, let me do it. If a church doesn't want to hold the ceremony, fine, they don't have to. They have that right. If I want to look at porn, let me do it. No one has any right to come in my home and tell me its against god. What god? Im a Taoist. Oh, theres another one. I wanna be a Taoist, not a christian. Let me practice that as a religion. And I wanna smoke Marijuana, maybe even do cocaine or something. Make it legal. Why should you stop me? The war on drugs has only made the problem worse. The war on drugs, something that BOTH parties have supported, despite the fact that drug use and related crime has only been on the rise. I am a commie too (Actually, thats ONE thing here that is NOT true.), I should be allowed to believe in Communism. Let me drink liquor too.

Every single one of the things I want to do or be were at one time frowned upon, if not downright illegal. Yet not a single one directly hurt anyone. The government has no place in consenual crimes. As Americans we need to treasure our freedom, and tell the government (and any other americans who want us to act a certain way, be a certain thing, not do a certain thing) "NO!!! I am not hurting you, DO NOT HURT ME."

I hope everyone understands what I am getting at there. Anyway, thats my answer. It has nothing to do with "finding common ground", I am not a republican or democrat, and I will not be voting for any candidate of those two parties this coming election.

I am an American, before all else. I support my country when it does good, and try to correct it when it does bad. If only all Americans truly understood what "Freedom" is.

Oh, and one last thing, I am not afraid to die for my freedom. Don't give me increased security at the expense of my liberty. I live here because I want to be free. Not in a "safe" cage. Don't give me Homeland security or the patriot act. Let me die a truly free man.

Anyway, heres to hope for such true freedom!

Look it's politics ran by the same type of people I don't care who's side your on, politicians are no more than people who have lost touched with the real world and more infatuated with there title. Weather it be with local government mayors to state senators, congressman, and president, politicians don't want to make a change sure they might tell you they do but all the want is your vote so they can hold on to there title. All it is, is people who have made a life of politics and let there egos get in way of the common good. Let common America hard working middle class people make decisions and you just might see some changes. I believe If you want anything in life you must earn it by hard work and can't depend on others i.e. the government to help you out there should be only one person you should count on and that's the man upstairs.

Doesn't matter how I answer or how many questions I post, either I am accused of being a neocon nazi by the left, or the right accuses me of being a bleeding heart liberal. In any event I try to apply basic common sense to politics. Which these days isn't too common! Personally I believe in the following.....

* Another country invades your country? Call the UN.
* You got hit with a tsunami? Call the UN.
* You got hit with an earthquake? Call the UN.
* One of your submarines sank? Call the UN.
* Experience an AIDS epidemic? Call the UN!
* Can't feed your own citizens? Call the UN.

I am SICK and TIRED of this country spending BILLIONS if not TRILLIONS on the welfare of other countries while New Orleans is still a mess, while we have millions that are homeless right here in our own country, and while kids don't have the money to go to college. I am not advocating isolationism. But I think this country has it's fingers in WAY too many pies. It's time to start worrying about what's going on in our own yard before we spend tax payer dollars on what's going on everybody else's.

We're uptight because we have little confidence in the future and no respect for each other or for the property of others. Laws come along for a reason not just because members of legislatures have nothing better to do. Germany and most other European countries can be more lax about drinking because getting sloppy drunk is not rewarded socially like it is in the U.S. You're expected to be able to hold your liquor. Those nations with citizens that exercise self-control don't need government control.

That would be hard, while there are many things that all Americans can agree on, the differences always come to the front. There is no way every American can agree on guns, free speech, abortion, and host of other issues. Until we can find way to bring out what makes us the UNITED STATES it will be politics as usual.

YES YES YES YES YES!!!!

"All liberals hate America"

"All conservatives love war"

"All liberals are terroristi sympathizers"

"All conservatives are bigots"

I could go on forever!

For the most part, we all want the same thing. We just have different ideas on how to get there!

Both "sides" want to take care of the poor. The left wants to start programs & the right fears those programs stifle more than help. (I've SEEN it stifle!)

And it is NOT "treason" to be opposed to the war!

We will never find common ground because we are a diverse set of people with different attitudes and upbringings and brains and ideologies. Thank goodness in America we are allowed to fight for our beliefs. That is our common ground the ability to fight for our beliefs.

Patti, I think that if more people took your approach to politics,
we might actually accomplish a couple of things in D.C.

Never find ground because there is always ones opinion about who is who in politics. But I think they act like crybabies a lot.
