Try and scan in safe mode. Reboot your pc and keep hitting F8. at the menu, select Safe Mode. Do a full scan. It is better to move the virus to the vault and delete it than to heal. I bet this works. You don't have to format the hard drive or anything.

What's the effect of the virus on your computer? It's not going to be removed, even detected, by adware/spyware terminators from the web, so I suggest you contact your AVG cust service. Don't delete the virus from your computer, because it might have a bad effect on your computer, or you can try deleting it, and just restore your computer if ever the deletion does have a bad effect. It does show the location of the virus right? Contact your AVG support, they're going to ask you to send logs about the virus. Then they will send the cure for it, if you can't download from the web(some trojans have this effect), you can do it in safe mode(safe mode with networking). I hope you already solved your problem before you even see this. Chill!!

As Andre said, scan in safe mode.

If that does not work, try an online virus scanner such as http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ . Some viruses are good enough to disable the functionality of virus scanners installed on your PC.

If you know what the name of the virus is, search for specific instructions on how to remove it.

You can quarantine the file and then you should be able to delete trojan from the virus vault. Also, you should probably scan in safe mode.

Kim Komando wrote a very good article for Microsoft about how to secure your computer. I would recommend it so that you can prevent having further infections.
