AhHAh! I love all these americans trying to defend themselves.... no, not ALL americans are rude and intolerant, you probably aren't, but the majority of americans... are complete and total assh*les! I'm ashamed of how we treat our foreign visitors.... but more by the way we treat our own people.
Maybe you america-defenders live in small rural areas where everyone knows each other? Because in most cities in america... we're just plain... bad, all around.
And blaming it on stress? That's even worse... americans HIGHLY value the person who can hold a very stressful job and still manage to be nice, kind, considerate, respectful, POLITE. Anyway, stress is not a good excuse. There are plenty of other high stress industrialized countries where the people are NICE to each other, where everyone is part of a community.
And maybe they're in a hurry! THAT'S EXACTLY THE PROBLEM!!!!
The problem with america is that we can't decide between individualism versus communalism. We value people who look after each other, keep up with each other, and treat others as members of the same community. But we also value extreme individualism, every wo/man for him/herself.
This means that in our movies the hero/ine will put their life on the line for a complete stranger, the hero will stick up for the weak in society. But in real life, most people don't even look up at each other when they pass on the street. In real life Kitty Genovese happens....

First of all, it only appears there is a lot of bouts of misconduct because thats all the media ever reports. If you have 9999 Soldiers do the right thing every day, and 1 Soldier who messes up, what does the media write about? The 1 Soldier. When I was in Iraq, 14 Soldiers had incidents in our division. More news stories were written about those 14 Soldiers then the other 14,986 Soldiers under the division's command combined. Also, when you compare the amount of military misconduct to the safest, crime free communities of the USA, the US military rate of misconduct is about half of the civilian population. People realize this and understand it, even though the media will only focus on the bad. Most people are actually kind of tired of it too. +++++++++++ A lot of Youtube videos are not US Military. The enemy has used our uniforms before. Also, the people that post those often have a network, they post something, then they have alternate accounts and people that work for them that post comments. Al Quaida has a huge internet information effort. Also, a lot of those videos are edited. Even the Wikileakes helicopter video was edited to show only the portion where the reporters were engaged. What was left off was that the helicopter had just engaged a mortar being emplaced that those reporters were filming. If your watching it on YouTube, most likely it was edited to show only a short portion of something for an agenda and not the whole context of what happened. Sometime when a terrorist cell is found and raided, the Soldiers find the full un-edited clips before they get published.

Generally when people have a problem such as yours, it has more to do with their own character and behavior than anything else. However, having said that, you must realize that America has more diversity than any other country in the world, and it allows practically any Tom, Dick, and Harry to come here and make a home and take advantage of its very free and open system of government. Quite frankly, Americans are a little tired of being used and abused by foreigners, and most would not be sad in the slightest if you were to go back home.

Sometimes "rudeness" is your own perception of an action toward you and was not meant that way at all. It sounds like maybe you have "a chip on your shoulder" and are "hearing" implied slights that were not at all meant. Possibly they were in a hurry and didn't realize that you were offended.
Try to listen with kindness and react with compassion. Some people however really are rude... just ignore them and concentrate on the ones that are nice to you. There are plenty to go around. A genuine smile is the best way to attract these people.
Hint: it's hard to argue with someone who "agrees" with you. You don't have to give up your position, just agree OUT LOUD that you have a difference of opinion and let it drop.
Are you confusing "fake" politeness with a negative answer?

I do not agree with you that Americans are the rudest people on the globe. Outside of your own nation, how many other nations have you sampled for rudeness? Respect is not guaranteed. If an individuals actions disqualify them from being respected, if they want respect, they have to earn it. Rudeness is unacceptable to me. There are no reasons I can find that necessitate rude behavior.
Productive interaction is the responsibility of everyone involved. So, are you always respectful and polite? Maybe you could use an attitude adjustment.

I'm sorry if you ran into a rude person from or country.
I'm an American and I'm not rude.
Most Americans really are not.
I think it's really rude when people from different countries talk about me in another lang.
You shouldn't be judging a whole country based on maybe 10 people.
By the way if you live in the south the people are alot more friendlier.
I live in the south.

This has got to be one of the dumber posts I've read.
You think Americans are rude because they're overly "polite" and you take this overly politeness to be rude, because you deem it fake?
My God man. Lighten up a bit. In the U.S., we're taught to be polite to people we don't know, and to try to accommodate them in any way possible. It's not fake. It's a sign of courtesy, respect, and a general acknowledgement of someone else that you pass by in society.
I guess wherever you're from, everyone's rude to each other and has no manners. But I guess it's alright because it's not fake, it's real, isn't it.
Gimme a break!

Fake niceness is really disgusting.
Nothing is more phony.
People do it all the time here in Canada too.
It is the breakdown of goodness and civility in our society now, where people have gone from actually being nice to mocking it in their behaviour.
Such a thing is not human, but it is real now.

I think rudeness lies in your own perception. You attract what you project.
Ghandi said: Become the change you wish to see in the world.
I've traveled around the world and I've met nice people and less nice people in every place I've visited. I don't let it change the way I behave though. Sometimes not giving in to the rudeness of another will make them realize what they're doing.
