A democracy is where the population (citizens) votes to make political decisions. There are many types of democracies.

The two most common are polyarchal -- everyone votes directly on every issue -- and representative republic -- everyone votes to elect representatives who make the final decisions.

In the US, we have a mix, where many local and state issues are resolved by a pure voter referendum, and remaining issues (including elections) use a representative republic model.

A republic is any system where some people represent the remainder. These leaders may be elected (as above), or appointed, or just be landowners, or just anyone with a doctoral degree, or whatever. A republic need not be a democratic republic.

A monarchy is where the ultimate political power is held by one person (monarch = one ruler). The monarch may appoint ministers or other officials to make lesser decisions (parliament) or even to represent the people (delagatory republic).

Democratically Elected Representative Republic

Democracy - a government by majority vote (usually consists of some of the people voting for one of 2 representatives chosen by the lapdog media; government leaders loot heavily from the people because leaders only have a short time to steal as much as they can)
Republic - a government by law (possible in theory, though not in practice; governments never follow their own laws, if they did so, they could not tax, which is a euphemism for stealing, or go to war, which is just another name for murder)
Monarchy - a private, family-owned government (is passed on from generation-to-generation; government loots less because the king's incentive is to protect the long-term value of his kingdom)

Democracy: One man, one vote. Two men vote to rape a woman, the woman votes against. Majority wins.

Republic: People vote for a representative to make decisions in their name.

Monarchy: Somebody with weapons once offered 'protection' to people who promised to feed, clothe, arm, and pamper them. Their children are called kings.
