It seems that our nation is divided by two parties and each side argues that what the other party leaders did is worse than what the leaders of their party did.

Aren’t we supposed to be looking for leaders that are of good morale character? Why do you think Americans have become complacent (with disgraceful acts surrounding national leaders) and not only accept incompetence and immoral behavior, but actually defend it in the name of our political parties?

some of the reasons, in my opinion, is the there is no longer any personal responsibility for a person's actions. the courts regularly dismiss rapist, murders, and those that prey upon the innocent, with no more than a slap on the wrist. even high profile people can get away with murder if they have the money to hire unscrupulous lawyers to get them off.

children in school are very aware that those in authority have no way to punish them for infractions and should they get some punishment, the ACLU will sue them.

governments cannot teach morals or ethics, this begin in the home and should be a part of your religious beliefs, if you have them. Note: i am not saying only religious ppl have ethics!

we have sexual scandals almost everyday and rather than blame the person, most want to do a 'see what the others are doing?' seemingly forgot their own leaders peccadilloes, using it to justify their hated for one party or the other.

we have athletes and musicians who are paid obscene amounts of money and could be 'heroes' except they are too busy being criminals or gangsters.

these are some of the major issues and i don't see it getting any better soon unless we, the people, demand better.

There is a saying..."He who throws mud loses ground." Originally, that was what American politics was based on, but sometime between the writing of the Constitution and modern times, politicians and candidates have learned that it is far easier to make their opponents seem like the worse choice than it is to make themselves seem like the better choice.

The real problem is not that our politicians no longer reflect the values of our nation; rather the problem is just the opposite. Our nation's leaders are unfortunately extremely representative of our society as a whole. If you doubt that, just turn on the evening news sometime. Nine times out of ten there won't be a single positive story on.

Before we can start to improve our nation's leadership, we have to improve our society. Once we've done that, the government will fall into line as well as morals begin to take a greater role in who we elect.

I read that only less than 20% of the population that are able to vote actual partcipate in the process. Holding the attitude that their vote doesnt count or that all politicians are crooked does not produce better candidates. If more people voted it would force better candidates to run and to act appropiately and in the public's interest. As long as people don't vote we will have the same type of candidates running for office.
Every vote does count. Our political system may not be perfect but it is the best in the world and we are fornuate enough to live in a Country that we have a voice in how things are to be done. If we don't speak (vote) there will be no dramatic change in the quality and integrity of the candidates running for office.

because a lot of the people are no better. there is a lot of incompetence and immoral behavior in America today.
how sad. how long can we stand without being strong moral people.
Still this is the best nation on earth to live. Why do you think our enemies hate us so.
We still got the best form of goverment. The best standard of living and we are still a country of incrediable opportunites.
We need to quit letting terrorist come to our country and bomb us. let them get their education at home

Gosh! could it be that we have become incompetent & immoral? Could it be that we have been dumbed down with the crap we watch on our "news program"? you know the ones that always have the two talking heads stupidly arguing with each other. Could it be we are to lazy to really check out the people that want to be our"servants". That word in government really makes me laugh. Our elected representatives are a reflection of ourselves. Why not change that reflection?

Sure we would all love to have a leader with no problems, that doesn't cause any of us concerns - but they are human. We all make mistakes, some planned, some not - but I am not sure we will every have someone in office that EVERYONE likes.

I wouldn't have the job of President for anything - way too much stress for what they are paid.

I hate election time only because of all the finger pointing, and comments that go back and forth at this time.

But not sure what the solution is.

We are not supposed to be looking for leaders at all.

Our elected employees are supposed to be followers. They are supposed to follow the will of the citizens of the country, and represent them in managing the functions of a subservient government.

Instead we have self-styled leaders, supported by the media, and by those plundering the treasury.

We need to elect a better class of employees, that means you don't vote by looks, by sound bytes or slogans, You look into the issues and try to pick candidates that understand the issues rather than read from cue-cards.

If you tend to vote by party line, by glitzy advertising or by slogans, do the country a favor and stay home on election day.

Good question, why did we allow Clinton to have sex with an intern in the Oval Office and remain in office? That was immoral and embarrassed most Americans.

A better question is why is there a different standard of what is acceptable conduct for a Democrat and for a Republican?

Seems to me that you are confused again Heat Miser. Most Conservatives I've heard are NOT defending the actions of John Ensign, Davit Vitter and Mark Sanford. Please provide links that show MANY Conservatives defending the BEHAVIORS of these men?

The job doesn't really pay that much but the retirement benny's are great and you get to charge extra high fees for public speaking and books and don't forget the bribes(oh wait they are not legal and no one takes bribes in government). Therefore finding someone of high moral character to fill these jobs is all but impossible.....but wait...I see a glimmer of hope. He is already a senator with a good record and his head is on straight and he knows how to act.

Because he is also AN ACTOR (like Ronald Reagan was).

His name is FRED THOMPSON!!!!!

You know he even LOOKS like a President.
