:):) The death penalty has be the subject of controversy since the beginning of time. Arguments can be said that it is an irreversible miscarriage of justice and it violates the criminal’s right to life, and that life imprisonment is an effective substitute. However, most people believe that “an eye for an eye” business – murderers are being punished and it is retribution for those who violate the life of others.
Utilitarian ethical theory, argues for the death penalty and generally focus on its deterrence effect; that is, people commit fewer murders because they fear being punished with the death penalty.:):)

Yeah. It's not about justice. It's a show of power. The state proves that ultimate power resides in the state...thereby given the governed a feeling of safety and stability.
It's not a deterrent either, because murder is an irrational act and I'm sure there are very few murders that considered the punishment as they were carrying out the act. By it's very nature, murder is the ultimate reckless act.

I don't believe in the death penalty. In fact, most people in prison just get worse. We need more rehabilitation centers and hospitals for the mentally disturbed. Unfortunately, it is cheaper to hire a cop than it is a mental health worker and psychiatrist and physiologist. A shame isn't it to think we could have hundreds of productive people out there but because of greed, we have hundreds of people who we take care of their whole lives or make martyrs of to others not to follow in their footsteps and even more disturbing is that we have made mistakes in killing a few on death row in the pride of finding someone to calm down society. Sad, sad, sad.

To assume that we kill people to show that killing people is wrong is a mistake in reasoning "A Fallacy"
The state executes convicts convicted of horrendous crimes as a form of Punishment. This punishment is served out the name of justice in accordance with the law. Executing criminals is also meant to be a "Deterrent."
The key difference between your mistaken reasoning and the truth as to why we kill people is.....
(Acts performed to be a Deterrent vs.
Moral Acts)
You contend we execute criminals for moral reasons. To show other people not to kill because it is wrong. The State kills people to bring them to justice and To deter other criminals from engaging in murderous acts out of fear of persecution.
Lastly, if the state should execute criminals and why the state execute criminals are separate questions that should be stated as such.

I really don't think that we do kill people who kill people to show that killing people is wrong. I think we kill people that are always going to kill people to protect us from them. If there is no way to make them stop the killing, the only solution is to eliminate them. I suppose we could isolate them until they die on their own but is that really more humane?

no one will ever know the answer to that.
Read about the word MU in the Japanese language
Mu means there is no answer becasue there really isn't a question. A question is based on assumptions. Your question is full of assumptions. Thus it can't be answered or even asked.

I agree it's absurd. The same could be said for religions and religious believers that are willing to die and oftentimes kill for their beliefs.
"You have to just marvel at the stun-gun absurdity of fighting to the death over what happens after you die.

We have too much free will .The one thing that God should not have given us .I guess he wanted to test us to see if we would obey someone higher than us.But we are weak when it comes to sacrifices that are asked of us.

You phrased it in a great way! People use violence to preach that violence is wrong. Welcome to this paradoxical world where non-being defines being.
