Probably depends on what state you are in. I'm in Pa. My child support ended automatically the day my son graduated from HS,as he had turned 18 a few months before. I got a paper to sign a few weeks before his 18th birthday to verify that he was still in school and his graduation date. That's it,no court. Your state might be different, you should ask at the child support office what you need to do.

Did you pay for it before?
My dad never paid it, and im 20 now and they take it out of his check each week.
but i dont think you have to fill out a form or anything, I think it just stops. I got a letter from the child support people saying that since I was 18 my child support would be stopped, but then they sent me another letter saying that they were going to pay me from all the years he didnt pay.

If you pay child support as part of a written agreement read that agreement. You may be liable until your child finishes college if he/she stays in school. If it is court-ordered read the order. If it says you can stop at 18 you still need to go back to court and if the child is in college the court can extend the time you pay.

read your original child support order issued by the court.
Normally you pay until the child reaches legal age in that state - possibly 18.
No - you do not need a form or anything like that...just make your last payment and you are done.
good luck

Emancipation applies to a MINOR who petitions for early adult status. If you turn 18, that MAKES you an adult, you don't need to apply for it. You are no longer a child at that time..and NOT ELIGIBLE for "child" support. The word "child" should be your clue. Child support is paid by the non custodial parent..to the custodial parent. Always. Never otherwise. There is no form for your issue. Your parents can agree to contribute to your college costs..if they so choose. There is no legal obligation for any parent to send a child to college. edit you have no special circumstances. Turning 18 happens to the best of us.

The answer is in the court document that said you had to pay it in the first place. If it doesn't say when it stops, it doesn't stop until you go back and say "Judge, the kid is a law school graduate and owns his own airplane, gimme a break on child support, willya."

Dude....trust me....I know.... contact the domestic relations office that you have been dealing with 3 months before the kid turns 18 and request a hearing. Tell them the reason is because the kid is gonna be 18. if you wait..you will pay until you have the hearing even though the kid has passed his birthday.

if you are in the UK, the CSA should contact you, however they dont, I had to chase them to find out when I had to stop paying, it was a good job i did as i overpaid, and i could not get any of it back. that was when my son was 16 and working, now he has gone back to collage I have to pay until his 19th Birthday. Just beware and chase up the CSA.... good luck

Yes. I believe it has to go thru the court system, otherwise, you must continue to pay.
