It depends on the anime/manga, I think.
In Ranma 1/2, the manga has stronger stories and less "filler" -- and better characterization. The anime may be a bit of a disappointment after reading the manga.
In Detective Conan, the anime is very faithful to the manga storylines. However, the fun of the story is figuring out how the various mysteries are to be solved. If you read all the manga, you'll know how most (if not all) of the cases in the anime are solved, before you see them.
For Chobits, I think the manga had better explanations for what was going on. I found the anime much easier to follow after reading the manga.

I believe the main reason for this is because anime are usually adapted versions of manga. It's like how people read books and then watch movies for those books (ex: Harry Potter). The manga is usually more in-depth, original, has better art, and farther ahead than the anime. Usually, I have always liked the manga better than anime, but at times I do sometimes prefer the anime. Plus, for time, anime tend to leave parts of the manga out, so you miss a lot, so it's better to read the manga first.

For me its something I recommend, its like any book that's been turned into a movie. So much gets left out from the show. Even so reading the magna you get a good feel for the char also alot of background stuff in some cases that never make the anime yet are briefly talked about. Ether way I would suggest reading the manga before watching the anime. In some cases it might leave you a bit more satisfied too... Knowing what happens after wards if the anime is left hanging.

Actually its better to read the manga first since it usually portrays the real story better and sometimes it has stuff which the anime ends up cutting out...and i mean vital stuff. BUTT the problem with that is when you first read the manga your expectations are way too high and when you watch the anime you are like thats not suppose to happen rite now or thats not part of the original story, so it messes up the whole anime fun out of it...Like I read GTO Manga first thenwatched the anime and the anime dissapointed me soo much since the manga was seriously funny and had stories which the anime didn't. Same with naruto, my friend who reads the manga no longer watches the show since its not interesting for him anymore so its your choice which one u wana go with first....hope dat helped

Nine times out of ten, the manga has more details than the anime does. So you should read the manga first. Then you could watch the anime to see the differences (and because it's in color! And everybody loves color!)

yes. because sometimes in some animes, there are a lot of fillers that make the storyline go all fuzzy and then you'll get confused. but the manga is original from the creator itself, and doesn't have any fillers at all. and if the anime hangs, you can read forward from the manga. a lot of manga has better artwork that the anime. for example: naruto, detective conan, detective school q, yu yu hakusho, and many more. so i really sugest you should read the manga first :)

i ususally watch the anime first, then if i thought the anime was interesting i will read the manga just to see the difference because the manga normally has slight differences and more detail......i hate reading the manga before watching the anime because then it just ruins the show, but this is because i anime more then i read the manga. So in your case it depends, do you like watching it or readng it, and whichever one you like more do that one and then the other....

Manga first because
-its the original (popping fresh straight from the one who made it EXIST)
-u can read it all over again if you dont understand unlike anime,if u watch on tv,its a bother to rewind it allover again doesnt it?
-though its a spoiler but hey, some anime didnt even follow the original plot!(which is very frustrating)
-u will understand more because they explain more in manga.
Seriusly,manga first,then anime.

yeah...i prefer to read the manga first
cause the manga is actually what happened!!!(the creater only did the manga, he/she didnt do the anime)
so read manga first and you'll know wat really happened. it will also contains more violence(if its a violent manga), cause the anime creator will make it less violent.
ex.(i like naruto so if u dont then oh well) for example , when naruto and sasuke fought, sasuke's chidori pierced through naruto's shoulder in the manga and in the anime it only scratched him.
hope this helps
