My brother has told me not to apply for a home loan in the little town where I live because they will screw me badly.

You've got a rockin' credit score. Make sure you keep it that way.
Get a home loan where ever you want as long as they offer you the best rates. You have more options with a good credit score.
Check around to see who offers the best rates. You may want to farm it out to see who comes back with the best deal. (online)That's assuming you want to get Pre-Approved for a home loan.
Don't just let a whole bunch of companies individually check your credit. If you get too many requests in a short period of time - it lowers your score.
