Anyone have a picture of one of those beasts?

Naugahyde leather was banned in the U.S. in 1984 but is smuggled from Nicanaugua where the beast, the Nauga, originated and the country obtained its name. The inhumane slaughter of the Naugua is second only to that of baby seals.

You can tell when someone wears genuine Naugahyde leather because they tend to match it with polyester shirts and spandex lycra bottoms while shopping at Walmart. Oh, the humanity!

Naugahyde was a trade name for fabric-backed plastic leather, often used back in the 1950s to 1970s for covering furniture. The company who marketed this covering even used the "nauga" for a while in its advertising. You can still buy polyurethane- or polyvinylchloride (PVC)-covered furniture. A drawing of a "nauga" holding a U.S. flag currently appears on the home page of the official Naugahyde site.

Naugas are now raised on farms. So you can still buy Naugahyde. But I'm sorry it is illegal to photograph them as they have photo-phobia and are nocturnal beast.

Hunting the nauga is permitted in Pennsylvania. The season runs from Thanksgiving to mid-January.

Most bars offer their patrons the "Tom & Jerry", a drink made of rum, brandy, heavy cream, egg and nauga.

Many groceries and convenience stores offer an alcohol-free version, which consists primarily of heavy cream, egg and nauga. You can add your own liquor, or drink the virgin beverage.

It's especially good with grated nutmeg.

I always loved to hunt naugas.
I may personally be responsible for the fact that there are no more green ones to be found anywhere in nature.
