You might try doing a survey of plants in high stress environments such as highways using parks or quiet roads as a control. You can use photo documentation and plant density/growth as outcome measures.

I just finished an astronomy class....maybe this will help.
The greenhouse effect has to do with ultraviolet rays that come in from the sun and can't escape back out of the atmosphere. Only certain materials can cause the greenhouse effect. This could be demonstrated with a plant, a clear plastic covering and the "greenhouse" material as the roof.
Look into the greenhouse effect, and see if you can replicate it to demonstrate to your evaluating panel which, I can only guess, would greatly appreciate you bringing this to a smaller comprehensible scale for your fellow students to easily understand.
This can also be used to highlight to the OZONE problem.
A lot can be done with this idea.
Hope it helps : )

Suspended Particulate Matter in air combined with oily smoke can cause lot of damage to building exteriors, people's interiors and such. It has been found that one acre of trees can trap and return to ground about 4 tons of dust in a year. The leaf surface traps the dust that is later washed down by rain returning to soil.

One can think of elaborating on this.

Title: Tree Trap to return Dust to Dust.
