Seriously, why are level 3 sex offenders living next door to some of us? I mean , I know the reality that there are sex offenders out there that aren't ever caught. But what fear do they have really? You'll get a few years and parole? Drive drunk 3x and get 20yrs!?!

Your right, we shouldn't store the problems.
We should execute them.

Don't blame me, I didn't vote for any of them.

Oh, sorry, thought you were talking about Congress.

Well, one reason is that with the concept of "prison overcrowding", we have to release sex offenders to make room for all those dangerous pot heads.

Because in America we still believe the primary role of prison is rehabilitation and not punishment. We cannot stockpile delinquents (it's just not practical, the logistics of it are overwhelming) so we do what we can for them and let them loose to hopefully lead a better life. Do most of them? Who knows. We only hear about the ones that commit crime again and not the ones who get out and lead honorable lives.

Jail sentences in America are through the roof. Mostly because every time some politicians want to appear hard on crime they write a couple more volumes of law and extend sentencing. So, a 19 year old makes a stupid mistake and spends 20+ years in prison for it.

Are some people who should stay behind bars let loose? Yes. Then again, is that just because we're not helping them? Alcoholism and pedophilia are mental disorders (just like depression and bipolar disorder). Like most mental illnesses they're caused by things like genetics, chemical imbalances, and childhood trauma. All things that the offender has no control over.

Maybe we should invest a little into FIXING these problems rather than STORING the problems behind bars.

Convenient as it may be to pin this on "liberals", slow thinkers should be sure to remember that it's actually most of civilized Judeo-Christian society that believes people are inherently good and deserve forgiveness.

There is also a major difference in terms of threat to the public between someone who regularly gets inebriated and tries to conduct a 2-ton machine around hundreds of innocent bystanders and someone with a deviant sexual appetite for a few innocent bystanders.

Because the leftist feel that these people can be rehabilitated and should be given new opportunities. Vote for conservatives (notice I didnt say republican) and this issue will be resolved. Criminals belong in prison. Rapists and murderers belong in the grave (after full DNA testing etc)

that's how liberals like it...everyone is a decent person inside and deserves to have a chance in society...even though the commit the same crimes repeatedly or do worse crimes...weak punishment and laws are always advocated by liberals...
--christTheLefty---you are totally wrong
"Judeo-Christian society that believes people are inherently good and deserve forgiveness."
Romans 3:23
23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
no one is inherently good...all men are inherently evil...forgiveness is granted to those who accept Jesus Christ as Savior...and then the person actions much change...without any change in a person their is no real repentance of the sin committed...

just about each and every drug criminal who has spent time in penitentiary has been arrested diverse situations previously ever spending a million day in penitentiary. Drug offenders at the instant are not victimless. some years there are extra little ones murdered with the aid of drug offenders in one state, than there have been murdered with the aid of intercourse offenders era. in case you think of that once a drug criminal introduces a youthful new child to drugsz that it does not result the new child for the the remainder of his existence negativly. properly then---. ninety 9.9% of intercourse abuse victims do super in existence. no longer just about so for drugs.

Because they have a "right to live."

And most sex offenders (EX: pedophiles) honestly cannot help the urge, like alcoholics feel that irrepressable urge to drink more. Some offer to be castrated so that they can live normally and not do it anymore.

Pot users are sooo much worse anyways. Mellow people who barely move are "soooo" much scarier and worse for society than those that rape, molest, and torture.

Once they have served their sentence, they cannot be held in prison -- the same as any other criminal.

There is no legal way to lock someone up just because you think they might commit a crime in the future (except for Bush, who's managed to do this despite two Supreme Court rulings that say you can't).

If you don't like the sentencing laws in your state, contact your state legislature and get them changed.

I never stop wondering over the same question. Children and women definitely in need of more legal protection.

Because people have been brain washed into thinking that those who smoke pot are more dangerous and our jails are filled with non-violent pot smokers.

EDIT TO ADD---

If marijuana was legal, we would have MORE than enough room to put those that REALLY need to be in jail where they belong.

I would rather a pot smoker live next to me than a rapist....

But, that's just me....what do I know...
