Wear shoes that are easily taken off and put back on, and keep metal objects on your person to a minimum to make getting thorough security easier. I bring an Ipod, a good book, a psp, a pen for filling out forms, a cell phone for emergencies, clothes and essentials in case they lose my luggage. A snack in case the food sucks.

I usually bring my laptop and blackberry as I am usually on business trips. Sometimes I bring magazines or an Ipod just to listen to because the plane is loud.

It depends on how long the flight is. If it's less than 4 hours I usually just bring a book. When I went over seas I brought a bunch of stuff. At least on the long flights they let you watch movies.

I bring a crossword puzzle book, pencil & earplugs in addition to my luggage (which is all in 1 carry-on bag anyway; I never check any bags).

I suggest chewing gum, for when the plane takes off (so your ears don't pop)
