Would that be considered as a wage? Or a gift?

Unfortunately YES! Our big government just wouldn't be happy unless it gets some of it. Too bad since I think there should be cases where such windfalls should be exempt.

Although few waitresses or waiters report all of their tips as income, tips are considered income and should be reported as such. This means that yes, she does have to pay taxes on the money. She will have a hard time not claiming it, though, since it was all over the news.

It probably would be considerd as part of her Wages- so it WOULD be taxible, & she'll have to declare it on her Tax Return next year... Of course, if she STILL didn't make that much from her job- she MIGHT get it all BACK in a Tax Refund... But she'll have to check that out...

A tip is counted as wage, so she will have to pay taxes on it.
