2x-2y=-10
-2y=-10 +2x
2y= 10 -2x
y=5-x

Substitute
y=-2x+17 so...

5-x=-2x+17
5+x=17
x=12

plug back in to the original

2(12) -2y=-10
24-2y=-10
-2y=-36
y=18

On your second step you multiplied -2 onto -2x+17 which should be +4x -34...you got the sign (+ or -) wrong and 2 times 17 is 34 not 38

You're on the right track, but watch your signs and multiplication. -2(-2x+17) equals +4x - 34.

Keep going and...

2x+4x-34 = -10
6x=24
x = 4

Then: 2(4)-2y= -10
8-2y = -10
-2y = -18
y=9

You should start out by subsituting for y:

2x-2(-2x+17) = -10

which then becomes:

2x+4x-34=-10.

Subtract -34 from both sides and add 2x and 4x...

6x = 24

x=4.

Then substitute x=4 into the second equation:

y = -2x+17

y = -2(4) + 17

y = -8 + 17

y = 9.

Your answers are x=4, y=9.

2x -2y = -10, y= -2x + 17

I got
2x -2(-2x + 17) = -10
2x -4x + 38 = -10 *****should be 2x+4x-34=-10 add 34 to each side

6x=24 divide both sides by 6
x=4
y=-2x+17
y=-2*4+17
y=-8+17
y=9
(4, 9)

2x - 2(- 2x + 17) = - 10
2x + 4x - 34 = - 10
6x = 24
x = 4

y = - 8 + 17
y = 9

x = 4 , y = 9

You are OK up to and including

2x -2(-2x + 17) = -10
but then you fouled up in distributing the -2. Your next step should be:

2x + 4x - 34 = -10

which you then solve for x to get

x = 4

You then substitute this newly-gotten value of x back into your equation

y = -2x + 17 to get
y = -2(4) + 17, or
y = 9

2x -2(-2x + 17) = -10
2x +4x - 34 = -10
6x-34=-10
6x-24=0
x=4

then if x=4,
2(4)-2y=-10
8-2y=-10
2y=18
y=9
So, x=4, y=9

help it can help u..the asw is 99% correct!!

watch sign multiplication
you should get 2x +4x -34 = -10
6x=-10+34=24
x=4

you have to watch the signs and multiplication
2x -4x + 38 = -10
should be
2x + 4x - 34 = -10
6x-38=-10
6x=24
x=4
so y=-2(4)+17
y=9
