The books are really amazing. In my opinion if you are a reader don't read everyone back to back. You will get sick of Harry and all of the characters. Try harry another book harry another ect...

Keep reading. I was one of those people who started reading the books after everyone else and wondered what the fuss was about and I read a lot as a rule. I was quickly taken in by the storyline and the characters. I'm sure you'll like them. I've been in the last three years when the new ones come out! Have fun!

I would enjoy it, and probably ignore Yahoo answers for a while until you get through more of the series. There are WAY too many spoilers of all six books on here, and it will just get worse with the release of the 7th.

I was also someone who read them late. I didn't read the first one until last November, but I have been hooked ever since! I didn't imagine I would be so excited, but it really is an entertaining series with a lot of great messages about life and love and friendship.

It's hard to explain. It's just so different from anything else. And it has an odd way of making you not want to put it down. It's just a wonderful series with addicting characters. There's a bit of everyone there: the hero, the brainiac, the scardy cat, the pranksters, the family, the mentor, the evil, everything!

Just keep reading!

Personally I think the fuss is that the are excellently written, tell an incredible moral story and the characters are fun and believable. JKR goes into wonderful detail and describes parts of scenes in ways that I couldn't conceive in my wildest dreams.

Pay attention to psychological development of Harry through the books. It's astoundingly accurate: which is probably why the teen age group loves them so much.
