im 12 (almost 13) and have been acting for a few years. i have taken classes and have been in several school and community plays. i really want to get some expeiriance with film acting and recently took a film acting class. i would really liek to be in a film, the problem is, my parents dont want me to get an agent. they say actors who start as kids get to caught up wiht fame like Lindsay Lohan and the Olsen twins. they say if I want an agent,, I can get one when I move out of the house.
I live in a very small town (bellingham, wa) so it is hard to find film auditions. i was wondering if anyone knew how to find auditions for films that are open castings, even smaller student films or low budget films in my area.

thanks so much!

You might want to check Craigs list for casting calls, these are more than not indipendent, usually low or non-paying parts, but the experience will be there.

Your parents are just trying to protect you from the "Lifestyle" associated with being a child star. The sad thing is, what gets reported (Lindsay Lohan's out of cotrol problems) that's not what being an actor is all about. All it does is ultimately hurt their career.

But, if you truly want to be an actor, build up you experience now through theater. Though it's not film, it's still acting. The question you really have to ask yourself is; are you interested in acting to be famous? or are you interested in acting for the sake of acting?

Those who seek acting as a way to be famous, usually end up with a disappointing career. Those who love acting for the acting, will eventually make it to the level of recognition where instead of you looking for work, work is looking for you.

You can achieve anything, and if you want a career in film, then you will eventually get there. and when you do it will be for the right reasons, which only you yourself know.

you can find open calls for community theater and student and ind. films without an agent. their open calls. having a resume is not a requirement to go on an audition. if you have talent and know how to work in front of a camera and can give a very good audition, you don't need a resume to get an agent. your not going to get an agent or a part based solely on your resume. everything you get will depend on how good of an audition you give. a good agent is not going to turn someone down with talent and ability just because they don't have a resume, well at least a smart one won't. if your in LA, there are a couple acting trade magazines you can subscribe to. VARIETY or HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. they are all about show business. open calls for anything going on in the LA area will be listed in one of them. also agents, mgrs, casting directors have ads in them. very few professional acting auditions will be open calls.you will need the proper agent. your resume does not need to be made up of entirely professional experience, you can use amateur experience as well.

Your parents are right. If you wanted to act in a student film or something like that I'm sure they wouldn't object. And there aren't any real agents where you live. The overwhelming majoriry are in NY and LA. And you can't just get one just like that. There are tons of people beating down their doors to get a contract. Just keep doing what you're doing and have fun with it. When you're old enough you can do what you want and you'll have a lot more experience. And you shouldn't be posting on here until you are 13. That's a violation.

You can't.
No one will hire you because you are too young and cannot legally sign a contract.
