It's really not possible to change your passwords at the very start when you select your profile. You have to go into control panel to fix that.

Power on Passwords can be reset by removing the mother board battery. (In addition, some laptops have a way to 'clear' the bios with a DIP switch or 'clear button' located inside the case but accessed through a small hole in the bottom of the unit.)

Windows XP can have passwords reset with anumber of password crackers which are available free on the net.

Lastly, call the past owner adn ask them for the Password.

I am assuming that you know the correct Windows logon name and password.

If your laptop is running on Windows XP, first try to log in with the correct password at the Windows logon.

Then, do the following:-

1. Remember your Windows logon name and password.
2. Go to Start -> Control Panel.
3. Select "User Accounts" (double-click on it).
4. Find the user account that has your Windows logon name on it (from step 1). Click once on it.
5. You will see an option that says "Remove my password". Click once on it.
6. You are prompted to key in your password (from step 1).
7. Once this process is successful, you do not need to log in to Windows with a password anymore.

Login with Safe Mode with F8 and login as "Administrator". From there, you can remove all the passwords you want.
