Every relationship requires respect of some sort. Experience is a wonderful thing, what we do with that experience is what makes us who we are. A mean person could have gone through hell and back in his lifetime, twice and still be an a**hole in the end. Another person could have gone through the exact same experience and be completely opposite of the first person. Knowing about an enemies life may create a respect or understanding but ultimately they are still the same enemy in the end. They say keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

it would be stable to stroll a mile in an enemy's shoes, 'cos then you certainly ought to stick 2 palms up at him in secure practices. you would be a mile removed from him, and you will have his shoes so he ought to not run once you and supply you a battering!

This is an excellent question. I think it depends on a few factors: how mature the parties involved are, and the cause of the original disagreement. ENEMY is a pretty strong word... and would both parties be walking in the other's shoes, or only one? ;0)
I believe that it definately helps you understand someone when you get to know them, see how they grew up, what influences formed thier opinions, personality, mentality... I guess it would also depend on how open minded and how empathetic you were. It's good to think of people you have a difference of opinion with as human beings as well, who also have family, friends, painful memories, bruised egos, ect.
Good question... def. thought provoking.

I think so. It's been my experience in the past that people who don't like each other often just don't understand each other. If I had to live the life of someone I didn't like and they had to live mine, I do think I could get along with that person because then I would understand where they are coming from and what they're life is like.

I would think he would be pretty mad having me walk on his feet for a mile - or maybe you meant that I was walking in them, in which case he would be pretty mad that I took them. Maybe he would steal mine and be really uncomfortable because I have a small foot.
I wish the problems of the world were that simple. I think problems between two people may be easier than problems between two nations of millions of people negotiating through intermediaries who have to worry about keeping their positions.

Nope, I'd wonder why they were wearing cheap shoes that give them blisters. Maybe that's why they're so crabby. I wake up very happy and it just goes downhill from there. :)~

At the very least, I think I'd be able to agree to disagree, and I think I'd definitely have a better understanding of where he/she is coming from.
